Anyone know why the Magna Top Flite golfball is bigger?

Trying to find out if anyone knows why the Magna Top Flite golf ball is bigger than any of the other golfballs?

Some top executive figured that a larger ball would be a selling feature and could create a market. There was heavy promotion to get the product off the ground., many free samples for selected local tournaments. There were few takers and the brand disappeared.

Well they made it that way on purpose - I forget why it was supposed to be better - flew straighter I think was their claim.  I didn't like it at all, but it did putt pretty good.  Being slightly larger it was not knocked off line as easily as the normal size ball.
