Anyone knows why Amazon.com no longer excepts paper money orders and paper cheques starting September?

Anyways, is it true if anyone sends out a money order or a check after September they would convert it to Amazon gift certificates for that person to use through the site?

Maybe too many people bounced their checks. Check cards are probably easier for them and they get their money right away.
