Anyone like the selected GC17 the names under consideration?

Question

The names under consideration for the prospective club are Ironmen, Marlins, Guards, Rays and Stingrays.

Wats with the fishy theme? They sound very rugby like..

Cant believe these are the names short listed..

Out of the short listed names GC17 Stingrays sounds the best but i agree with Romper, GC17 Dolphins doesn't sound bad at all.

But then again the VFL has a team called the Frankston 'Franky' Dolphins.

I think they should go with Gold Coast Gargoyles, but out of the short list i would go for Guards.

I dont mind it because its the coast and the fishy theme suits, the best in my opinion would be stingrays and rays for short.

i did like the sharks idea the best, because there is a WAFL team called sharks so it just seems more normal.

whats with ironmen??

I would of thought 'dolphins' would of suited them better than any of those names.

What about west sydney,  'the bogans'  makes sense to me.

No they should have gone with the Gold Coast Sharks. The rest of the names are wimpy

Most of them sound real pansy. Sharks seems to roll off the tongue but apparently they can't use that because of Southport (I don't know why since Southport are a major supporter!)

There have been some other great suggestions on www.bigfooty.com as well as some terrific guernsey designs done by forum members. Full credit to them becasue some of them really are fantastic!

Personally I think they should be called the Gold Coast Galahs!

these names dont float with me either, they sound too much like a comic book character that i cant take seriously. why not a name like stormers, crocodiles or even arbiters. those other names sound too americanised.

As its the Gold Coast team, i think they should be fishy, i like the stingrays.

they should call themselfs the whiteshoes or whitesocks as thats what everyone wheres on the gold coast.

I don't like them, they sound too American for me. Out of those five though I like the stingrays.

Out of all the names short listed, Stingrays is definatly the preffered..... Could you imagine the c**p the club would receive if they were called Gold Coast Ironmen..... whoever thought that one should be examined mentally....... The same goes for Guards........

I preferred the Sharks, but they've knocked it back.

Out of those they are considering, Stingrays or Marlins are the best bet.

I like that one. They have actually been prominent of late - one sidelined Daniel Kerr for a while....plus another was involved in that well publicised incident involving the Crocodile man!
