  1. I never get any sun from the Northerly aspect in my house. It is my lounge room and computer room VERY cold in winter, but not so bad in summer!

  2. i depends how far above the equator you are and how many trees are behind the house.  You will see the sun in the summer and late spring and early fall.  In the winter you will have less sun but will still be able to see it.

To help get sun into the house, don't use any drapes on the south facing windows, that will at least let some light into the hosue.

  3. You'll not "see" the sun from the north unless you're outside after noon however if there are no trees to filter the light you'll get plenty of indirect sunlight; it's the best location I've found for growing boston ferns indoors;-)

If you're asking this (since it's a gardening forum, I think that is what I've stumbled across) for outside plants there  tons of plants that can grow with northern exposure, most just need sun, not direct sun.  I have ivy growing like crazy on the north side of my home as well as roses, coneflowers, hydrangea and many other favorites.  You are concerned with outdoor planting, yes?  If I've not sufficiently answered your question (or someone else has not yet) don't hesitate to write me.  I don't often check mail but I will eventually get back with you.  Good luck and enjoy your new home!
