  1. Rent is paid monthly and can vary greatly in price.

Together with rent if you're renting an unit, apartment or townhouse in a complex with others you have body corporate fee's which I think are paid per quarter but may vary with each complex.

Gas is paid quarterly, so is electricity and water.

Telephone is now paid monthly by Telstra

  2. My husband and I own our apartment. Bills are:

    Council Rates - $240/quarter

Strata Rates - $710/quarter currently but going up, will be over $800/quarter

(and the facilities aren't even maintained, spa has been empty for ages, pool is dirty, gym equipment was broken and removed, showers don't work etc!! Can't imagine how much it would be if the facilities actually worked!!)

    Water - $110/quarter

Electricity - $160/quarter (more if you use air-con/heater)

    plus phone, internet, rent/mortgage etc..

  3. no  i don't live in a unit but my friend does and she  pays $500 a week but it can climb up it all depends on how good the unit is. Hope this helps!!

  4. In the south western suburbs of Sydney, rent is much cheaper than in the actual city. Check online at real estate websites, e.g. http://www.domain.com.au or http://www.realestate.com.au

In terms of utilities, water is usually included on your rent, but there may be a clause which states that if you use over a certain amount then you will have to pay for it.

Electricity is usually a quarterly charge, and you will receive a bill every 3 months. On average, my electricity usually works out to around $2-5 a day.

  5. I live in a unit in Altona, Victoria, and bought it for only $160,000. It's now worth $250,000 in only 2 years. The reason is it has the beach at the end of the street.
