Anyone living in housing at Great Lakes?

We are about to move back to Great Lakes, we have lived there before and there was no wait at all. Is that still the case? Are all the units new? (I have seen some of them online.) Thanks!

  1. sill no wait.  Been there.  Still call housing to make sure.

Like you, as many times as I've needed housing here @ GL, it was like--here's the keys.  Check the quarters and tell us if you want it.

...and the new housing doesn't always go to the newly inprocessed.  Some are new, some are going to special families with needs.  And then some are going to officers, then enlisted.  Depends on the area they are working.  On the bright side, still NO wait lol.

Honestly, I never took them because they were very substandard.  I elected to rent and buy a house.  Not all their housing is c**p, just the ones they showed me.

Follow up:  I was just there last week and there are still some old ones, that's why stated that.  I'm willing to bet they might be on the short list for demolishing as they were still lived in.

Sometimes they wait for them to PCS before condeming them.  You know I could give you an opinion but nothing beats the call to housing to get an idea.

I THINK you will get the new housing as this initiative has been drawn out since 2007.

    DID you give me thumbsdown?

  2. You should get a hold of the housing office there, I'm sure they will be able to provide you with housing availability. Also, you can talk directly to your sponsor (if you were assigned one). If not, contact the command's command master chief to get one assigned.

    Good Luck!
