Question:

Anyone looking to sell an SUV because of rising gas prices?

I'm a journalist trying to find folks who are attempting to trade in, or sell their SUVs out of fear of the rising cost of gas. I'm particularly interested in those folks who, when they've tried to sell, have been offered a trade in price that is lower than the remaining payments or KBB value of the car.

Maybe instead of selling at this time, these drivers are altering their driving habits or are cutting out some other exepenses to pay for gas.

Does anyone fit in this category? And if so would you be willing to talk with a journalist?

Thanks!

  1. i cant sell mine i live where the snow plow only plows when after i leave to go to school and i have a muddy driveway in the spring and it a little small s10 blazer so it not to bad on gas

  2. I don't have an SUV or will ever buy one.

But I do own a minivan.  Does that count?  We also have two sedans ... but the minivan is needed for taking the family around and lugging groceries from Costco and BJ's.

It costs me $75 to fill up the minivan, and the price of gas is killing me.  But it's depreciated to the point where selling it doesn't make economical sense ... and we still need a reasonable sized vehicle for the family.

  3. I own two large SUVs: A Ford Excursion and a Ford Expedition. We have looked at possibly trading in one of them for a smaller car to use around town and or on trips when the entire family isn't going. If you have any specific questions please contact me. I am in Northwest Ohio where the average price per gallon is currently $3.96.

  4. I have experienced this problem.  I searched for a car, found one I wanted, and began the "fun circus of bargaining" with the salesman.  My 2004 Chevy Tahoe, at Kelly Blue Book prices, is worth approximately $12,500 to trade, yet I was offered $7,500.  I only owe $2,000 on it, so I was basically giving it away for $5,500.  I have had to really shop around, because I'm refusing to take less than $10,000 on trade-in, and let me tell you, because of this.....I am still shopping.
