  1. yes, the CESTA (centre d'Etudes Scientifiques et Techniques d'Aquitaine)  near Bordeaux is a research center. This is where the CEA, Commissariat à l'Energie Atomique, works on the french nuclear bomb. They have some fusion research facility, they are building the LMJ there.

    It's build in the middle of a forest, so there nothing much to see
