  1. My husband & I adopted our son through foster care. We are foster parents who take placements in hopes to adopt. We enjoy helping these little angles in there time of need & it fills our home with laughter & the "pitter patter of little feet" that we longed to hear for so many years. We were blessed to be able to adopt our first placement! We got a 5 day old baby & his adoption was finalized when he was 15 months old. We knew he would be ours after he had been with us for 6 months, but because he had siblings & other details with the case it took longer than usual to get it finalized. He is our LIFE!!! It's the best decision we've ever made....there are risks of becomming attached to the children in your home --and then they are returned to their birth family. There are positives also. We like getting to know a child and see if they are a good fit for our family before deciding to adopt. Fostering works well for us, and we are currently waiting for an upcomming staffing the 19th to see about adopting a baby we got straight from the hospital! He is now 9 months old & we pray adoption will be the outcome (as we are very attached)!! There are soooooo many benifits from adopting from foster care, for example: My adopted son has Medicade so we never have to pay any doctor bills, He also has a 4 year scholarship to any college in our State. His adoption didn't cost us a dime either! The state pays for the fees! Please call your local Department of Children & Families and they will be glad to fill you in on your States adoption benifits (as it varies from state 2 state) If your have any other questions E-mail me I'm happy to help! Best wishes!

  2. Educate yourself about the dynamics of adoptive families and the issues your adoptee will be facing.

  3. The best suggestion that I have is to contact a local reputable adoption agency for more information.  It really varies on the type of adoption that you are interested in and an adoption agency can explain all of the differences for you.  You can also speak with your local Dept of Human Services Children & Youth program to discuss foster care and/or foster/adopt programs.  Once you know what type of adoption you are looking toward, then you can begin gathering more information about that specifically.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

  4. It depends what type of adoption you're thinking about. Domestic infant? Adoption from foster care? International?
