I just got hired and am very concerned about the amount of money I'll be making. The training pay is an incredibly low $400-$500 a week for 6 months! Canadian Pacific training pay is $891 a week! How much will I make per year? Ballpark.

  1. Talk to a trainmaster or the local chairman or a conducter from the last class that was hired ahead of you. They can tell you exactly what you will be making.

HR people have an appalling and embarrasing lack of knowledge of the jobs they are hiring for.

They usually hire people for HR because they are of no value anywhere else in the company but they arent incompetent enough to get fired.

There may be exceptions but in 35 years of railroading for 3 railroads I havent seen it yet.

  2. NS=n**i southern..called this for a reason peeps.

  3. I just went to a hiring session for NS in decatur today. Thats right what they told you 500.00 a week, But remember you'll be on the extra board being a new hire. So theres going to be a lot of overtime based on what the HR people told us.You got your union dues & medical as well that they take out. Its a ***** and you don't make much starting off but if you can hang in there you'll be making more.the lady giving the hiring session said that there our conductors that moved up to engineer and some of them our making a 6 figure salary. I hope this helps you out a little bit.Check out this forum too as it will tell you more of what to expect and even the money you'll be making.
