Anyone ever participate in a racing partnership or considered participating? How was your experience? Other than a derby winner, what features would you want to have present in a partnership? Is it more important to be able to watch your horse live or race it where it can be successful? I'd appreciate any other thoughts you might have on the subject.

  1. I'm about to do it.  I'm just waiting for the contract to arrive.  As long as everything looks OK I'm going to be a 2.5% owner of a $35,000 claiming horse.  I don't expect to win any money (although there is always the one in a zillion chance that you could get a horse like Funny Cide who was claimed for around $20,000 I believe).  I'm doing it for other reasons - namely, being able to visit the horse at his barn, learning more about racing, hopefully getting to meet some of my favoirte trainers and jockeys, getting to be in the paddock when he's saddled on days he races and if he should win, going to the Winners Circle and being in the picture.

The only fear I have is that the horse will be injured which would be devastating to me and it happens way too often - it ruined my excitement today about Curlin (my favorite race horse right now) winning the BC Classic.  Having George Washington break down was a tragedy.
