i mean play seriously. Im starting and i dont have much money to buy equipment, so im buying only the 2 most essential

a gumshield, and a pair of boots.

the gumshields no problem, but im having a bit of trouble with the boots. im buying a fairly cheap pair (un branded- all i really want is studs at the bottom), but i want to know hat to look for in boots. Im playing Prop, so ill need grip. what kind of studs and what should i test the boots for, when trying them on? in dollars i have about $20 for them ( i know its not much but itll be a while anyway before im first team material).

also, reccomend some equipment that i can buy to improve my game ( so i can start saving).

thanks to all those people who answer this

kudos

  1. I suggest Nike Sharks.  They are a good shoe, and inexpensive.  They are grid-iron football cleats, but I've found those actually work very well in the Tight 5.

  2. you shouldnt worry about scrum caps, they are mainly for locks and the number 8. As a prop you cant get cauliflower ears.

a good prop´s boot must have big, aluminium studs, but there are also some metal studs covered in plastic, which I bet you can use in school. you should try and wear soft pads in the shoulders, they protect your shoulders, neck, chest and upper arm. Hope you shine!

  3. umm 1st of all scrumcaps dont prevent concussion its mainly to prevent 'collie-flowered ears' n cuts n stuff.. second of all the ideal boots u are lookin for shud hav 8 sprigs 5 at tha front 2 at tha back for more traction in the scrums.. the boot itself shud be light as possible and the sprigs at tha front of the boot shoudnt be able to bend to the sides otherwise you will be slipping in the mud.. umm otherwise the nike tempos will do the job..

  4. I play for england u18s, i think as you are just starting the game, you should get a basic pair of boots, look in a sports shop or maybe your club will have some in lost property.

Dont bother buying all this flashy gloves etc. it doesnt help your game, just makes u look like a poof!

To improve your game, one of the most important things is fitness and handling skills. the best way to improve your hands is to pass the ball up and down in your hands (off both hands) wherever you go...watching tv, sitting down etc...

    good luck

  5. I used to! Remember to have lots of fun! You will most likely loose weight from all of the running...LoL

    Good Luck

  6. Metal studs that you can replace.  I play prop as well.  I have two sets of studs - dry and wet ground.  I suggest shoulder protection and a scrum cap.  Mine cap has already saved me from a concussion.

    Edit:

my school doesnt allow metal studs.  Use plastic

and i dont men to be ingnorant, but what are cleats?  soccer shoes with plastic studs

and isnt a scrum cap for the scrumhalf.  Anyone can wear one

  7. You could probably find some used football cleats with s***w in cleats.  Take out the toe cleat.  Also replace the cleats with some metal ones.

  8. I play prop and I use soccer cleats. They are cheap. They aren't the best, but they work. Metal stud are pricey, but soccer cleats will work. If you buy any pair with the toe-cleat, be sure to cut it off or the ref can toss you out of the game if they do a cleat check.

  9. I played  in college it was womens 15's I played back i was a winger most of the time and I didn't have any money to buy some real rugby boots so I used field hockey cleats they were legal (so many soccer cleats aren't) and they did the job but you could try looking for like an outlet store around where you live where I went to school there was a sporting goods store that sold some boots for twenty bucks. At rugbyrugby.com the lowest price is like $30 or $40. but I would google for stores in your area good luck I loved playing oh and watch your teeth!

  10. ....nnnnope, i don't; never have.

    (haha! two points!!!)
