I work on Zero Waste diversion to landfill at sites in California.

  2. I work as a wildlife biologist specializing in ornithology. I currently study and help save endangered bird species as well as removing non-native plant species from natural habitats.  We also do replanting of native species.

  3. Environmental scientist or environmental engineer isn't necessarily a specific career path, but MANY industries use such people.  Almost any industry is subject to environmental legislation and needs environmental scientists to help them comply.  For example, oil companies hire environmental scientists to help them dispose of hazardous waste legally.

However, many environmental scientists end up working as consultants.

  4. I've done a few thinds in the environmental field. I've taught environmental biology and environmental science, worked for a water company as an environmental specialist, and consulted for a few companies. I'm sort of retired now but when an interesting project crops up ....

  5. Agua-Luna Ranch is located in west Texas near Big Bend National Park. Its a 100% off grid Ranch, doing internships and volunteering in self sustainability and renewable energy, on the ranch and abroad. In fact we just got back from The Amazon doing a sustainble project in Peru on in the rain forest.

There is no rooming rate for staying on the ranch but there is a $100 per month fee for food. Currently we're putting up an Aframe structure for intern winter housing, building a reservoir and have 9 solar panels and a wind turbine that's being raised. Later this summer we'll be heading down to Mexico for a job as well as traveling back to the Amazon.

  6. yup i wanna be an environmentalist when i grow up right now i'm

13 so i still have more time

  7. Yes some people will be.

  8. I work as an environmental consultant.  My undergraduate degree is in biochemistry.  The majority of my work is focused on cleaning up contaminated groundwater from industrial, commercial, and private properties.  My work protects both city municipal well fields and private supply wells from contamination such as carcinogens.

One thing that I would highly recommend is to take a broad swath of classes.  You would be amazed how many projects you can get work on if you have a basic understanding that builds into experience.  This ultimately will make yourself much more valuable as an employee and successful in a competitive market.

I like the idea of working on energy efficient technologies as one leg of your background.  But remember that the simple example of solar power involves many different professions and trade skills.  The best thing is to know a little about everything and focus on something you like.

My main focus is on bioremediation.  This is a process where I feed bacteria in groundwater certain things to get them to eat my contaminants for me.  It saves thousands to millions of dollars for those paying the bills, including tax payers.  I find it very rewarding.  I also write lots of reports, provide technical input, help geologists, review engineering plans, give presentations, and get to work out in the sun from time to time.

Remember, by keeping your educational background broad, you will be more successful.  Of course, if you have any other questions about what I do, feel free to email me.

  9. There will be more I am sure. Good luck with your career.
