  1. Why you want one with a good pass rate.  My pass rate at this moment in time is 100%, thats because my 4 pupils that I have been teaching since Christmas have all passed first time.

Yet, my pass rate over the year has been from 10% right up to 85%.  The instructors pass rate is really dependant on the pupils test results, so if you do well and pass then what you caring about pass rates for.

Technically, 1 in 3 test results in a pass.  It really is important you look at the test centres pass rate.  I cannot remember the national average but last year it was 43%, some test centres are well over 50%.  My local test centre last year was 55% but that was just a small 1 examiner base, he's moved to Perth now.

The instructor level on the first level? I don't understand.  A fully qualified instructor will be graded from 4 to 6.  6 Being the best.  if there is no grade then either they are still training ( red/pink badge on windscreen) or have just passed but not graded yet.

I'm a grade 5 and due another check test next year.

By going "quite cheap" then you might get some "c**p" instructor.  I would suggest BSM they have a good pass rate as a company, all instructors are regularly checked by their own in house senior instructor, and if you have any problems with instructor then phone the office and you can change.  They really do look after their pupils, I also believe the instructors can charge what they like.  The lessons used to be £18.50 for students and £19.50 for others.  I  If you wish to go for an independent instructor then I would suggest asking friends and family.  I used to work for DRM but I would not recommend them.....

If I was nearer then you could have asked me.......Good Luck.

  2. I was looking for one too. Still not found a good one.

Would you believe it is not possible to get the pass rates for individual instructors.

What you can do is check the DVLA site and make sure your instructor has the top level of qualification. Many of them only gain the first level.
