What was the name of the laundry detergent that came in desolvable packets in the 60's? My girlfriend and I can't seem to find anyone that remembers.

  1. I don't remember that exactly, but I do remember when ALL (i think) came out with the laundry packet that you would throw in the washer, the packet contained the detergent.  Then you would transfer everything to the dryer and the outside of the packet would be the dryer sheet.  I want to say that was in the mid to late '80's.

  2. Tide had Tablets that disolved.

  3.   I do not know the answer to your question.  I will, however, give you more information so that you can do research.  The terminology to use is water soluble packet laundry detergent.  i.e. (desolvable-sp?)

There are many on the market today, mostly for commercial/industrial applications.  Some are Powdered formulas with soluble film overwrap (Walton-Marsh Products).  Some are liquid with soluble film overwrap (DCL Solutions/Pak-Its).

Your use of the term "packets" references something overwrapped with PVA film.

Polyvinyl alcohol water soluble film production started in 1961 with an American consumer laundry detergent.

My best guess is Amway's  SA-8 detergent.

Good Luck on your quest to find this information.
