  1. WHY can't you quit?  Its better if you do!  I have a co-worker who sounds just like you.  Makes all sorts of excuses about stress on herself which can pass to the baby.  Um, what's going to happen when you have the baby and he/she goes through withdrawal?  Would you rather have a screaming baby addicted to nicotine or quit while your pregnant?  Do you not know all the risks associated with smoking while pregnant?  *sigh*

  2. I smoked for about 20 years but quit the second I got a positive pregnancy test.  My own addictions are not worth risking my baby's health.

  3. Why are you just beginning to worry about this now? You're already 35 weeks along, most of the damage is already done. Good luck with your nicotine addicted baby.

  4. i would just like to say that first off, you dont smoke nearly as much as many woman do while pregnant, you are barely even considered a smoker lol, they start to get mroe worried when its a pack + each day

but really what id like to say is this

ill bet more than half the women on here that are putting you down or putting the guilt into it, all had moms who smoke and drank while pregnant with themselves, a i bet most of them are relatively healthy

so they should truly shut their yaps and concentrate on judging themselves for their own individual problems

you will be fine whether you do manage to quit in the end or not

yes there are increased risks with smoking, but there are also increased risks for a million other things

i quit smoking at the beginning, not cold turkey and had a few occassionally thruout, i even had a few glasses of wine over the whole term, and guess what, everythings just fine, really its luck of the draw i think

  5. I've smoked with both of my pregnancies and my first was 7lbs 11oz. But its never too late to quit. You actually smoke less than most smoking moms do. Try to cut back by just smoking half of one, put it out and go back to it later.

  6. uh, your 35 weeks now...what's the point...you already did the damage to your child...why didn't you ask this question 35 weeks ago.  People like you sicken me.  Thanks to you...your child could be born with a lot of defects, have behavioral problems...and all because you were weak and couldn't quit...big deal.  Tons of mother's quit for their children...I have no sympathy for you.

  7. I don't think it's safe to quit, you should really ask your doctor. I've heard plenty of women be told not to quit completely, just cut down to 1/2 pack a day at the most, which you don't even smoke that much... and you will have withdrawals, which aren't as bad in early pregnancy as they would be now so talk to your doctor, and limit your smoking as much as possible.

  8. Any time is a good time to quit. It doesn't matter if you are 35 weeks or just gave birth, if you quit now it lowers the chances of problems not only with your baby but with you.

  9. The fact that you have suddenly started being worried is weird.   I am a smoker and...I have smoked lightly with all 3 of my pregnancies...but I felt guilty the WHOLE time and still do.  My doctor isn't that worried as long as I have cut back.  I have had 2 wonderful healthy girls.

Don't listen to these people on here about judging you.  They are no saints either and have no right to judge you.  Like Jesus said... worry about the board in your own eye before you try to get the stick out of someone elses.  What you do doing your pregnancy is between you, God, your ob, and the father..   Everyones is just a walking opinion!

  10. Dont be selfish, either smoke or have a healthy baby.

  11. It's never too late to quit. But neither should you quit cold turkey.  Talk to your doctor about cessation programs in your community. There may even be one for pregnant women.  If you can quit before baby arrives, that would be great.  If not, just keep working on it, and quit as soon as you can.

(And if you are still smoking after baby is born, be sure to NEVER smoke in the house or around your baby. And do breastfeed, if at all possible. Your breastmilk will offer some protection against the risks of second hand smoke.)

  12. You just started worrying at 35 weeks?!  News flash, damage was done 30 weeks ago.  You sound like you will make a wonderful mother.  All the best to you.

  13. this is something you are going to have to talk with your doctor about...

i smoked during both my pregnancy's but was informed by more then one doctor, quiting may cause more stress on the baby so it was safer to just cut back. first one was almost 9 pounds, second was 6 and 1/2 pounds. both healthy.

Your doctor can give you better information on this...but if you can quit after baby is born, that would be great.

  14. If your in the UK the NHS has a stop smoking service and you can also use nicotine patches and gum while pregnant. Its not to late every day you go without a cigarette will benefit your baby good luck

  15. I smoked during my first pregnancy, not my second. First one was 6 lbs 4 oz., second was over 7 lbs. If you're not willing to go cold turkey, what you should do is smoke 5-8 cigs tomorrow. 4-7 the following day and so on until you're down to none. Your child will also benefit from living in a smoke free environment and from having a healthier mom.

  16. To be honest hun, if you couldn't quit for 35 weeks its unlikely you'll quit now.  Please make sure your midwives, doctors and gynae s are aware of this in case there are complications.

I know how hard it is so best of luck

  17. Never too late to quit, especially since you'll have a little one around and secondhand smoke is really bad for babies. Also it means that the next child won't be at risk.

Talk to your doctor about a program to quit.

  18. i think you should go to jail. its just my opinion but you are putting a little helpless life in danger. What a jerk of you

  19. Don't listen to all of the meanies on here. I'm sure everyone has made their share of mistakes too. I smoked periodically throughout all of my pregnancies, for example, if I was with friends who were, or I was really stressed out. All of my babies are perfectly healthy. If you can cut down a little, that would help, but it sounds like you are already not smoking very much. After the baby comes, you should try to get on Chantix. It's a little pricey, but it works wonders and if you have good insurance it should be covered. Good luck at Congrats on the pregnancy!

  20. Smoking during pregnancy can harm the health of both a woman and her unborn baby. Currently, at least 10 percent of women in the United States smoke during pregnancy. Cigarette smoke contains more than 2,500 chemicals. It is not known for certain which of these chemicals are harmful to the developing baby, but both nicotine and carbon monoxide play a role in causing adverse pregnancy outcomes. Smoking nearly doubles a woman's risk of having a low-birthweight baby.

  21. I smoked during all 3 of mine. Their weights were, 8.8, 8.11, and 7.4lbs. Sound real small huh? So many things go into weight, size etc.... Smoking isn't one of them. Having a husband who is 6'2 225 is one of them. I'm 5'6 myself.  Genes are another one. So if your child ends up with asthma etc.... that's why. They are genetic disorders and that's how you get them. You can't get asthma through smoking. It's just an excuse to use if it happens. It's better than saying I have a genetic problem.

Btw, all 3 of my kids, are still healthy.

Your baby will be fine. If you are worried, have your genes checked out. The same with the father.

  22. i smoked through 3 pregnancies and all my kids were healthy and above average weight.you can quit when ever you want just do whats right for you. i had bleeding too, but it turned out to be nothing more than friction from the pressure of the uterus rubbing vaginal tissue. if you are small built this may be your problem as well
