  1. Do you mean on the Royal Promenade on an RCI ship, the one that looks out over the internal shopping mall?  Or the Lower Promenade on a Holland America ship, the one that looks out on the outside walkway?

I've stayed in a Lower Promenade cabin on HAL, and it was OK but for privacy we had to keep the curtains shut most of the time, which made it not as good as most outside cabins.

I don't know about noise on Royal Promenade-facing cabin on RCI, but looking from the outside I think you should also consider privacy, especially for the lower decks.  And even on the higher ones, the cabin across the way will be able to see in.

When we would sit in the wine bar on Liberty of the Seas, we sometimes had an embarrassing view of guests in their cabins!

Some photos of Liberty of the Seas:

You can see the closed curtains in some of the Promenade photos.  (And I still have a bunch more to add.)

  2. I have been on 2 soon to be 3 Royal Caribbean cruises and 1 Holland america. On our first RCI, our ship didn't have a promenade, so we had and oceanview room. On our second cruise on Mariner of the Seas, we had a promenade room and we loved it. I was 12 at the time and we had gotten up at 3 in the morning and we didn't get to the cabin until like 10:30 and as soon as we got there, I crashed, and there was even a parade going on downstairs. you couldn't really hear anything. On our cruise this summer, we have a Promenade room too. We are going on Freedom of the Seas. I can't wait because it is over my 14th birthday.

  3. never done a cruise, have fun.

  4. On my last cruised I stayed in a promenade cabin and I enjoyed it. I've stayed in an ocean view before, and actually prefer the promenade room. I prefer to look at something besides water and darkness. I love to people watch so I liked being able to sit in my room and see what was going on outside. It also gives you a good view of the parade and other promenade activities, while avoiding the crowds. As for noise I didn't have any issues, a lot of times I didn't know stuff was going on until I looked out the window. The only negative is that people can see in, so you have to remember to keep the blinds closed when you are changing.

  5. Ill guess that the rccl ship is the same as the one on silja line ships so here is my idea about it.

My guess is that the rooms are fairly good soundprotected but that it could be noice when there is enterteinment on the promenade but not else.

Its a window but its not towards the sea so you want be able to look outside and thats a con. Guests having windows on the opposit side could see into your cabin so its not very private if you dont have the curtain covering the window. But othervise its a nice and odd feeling with it. I would prephere a sea window or balcony but thats me. Ill guess its better than an inside cabin. Johan.
