  1. Hi,

I stayed at the Casa Marina Beach a cple of yrs ago which is the sister hotel to the beach.

We only went to the north to do the ocean world trip to swim with dolphins and all i can say is it is an amazing day so if your budget will allow defo do this. If you search ocean world in google you will be able to see all the activities there cos there is way more than the dolphins.

The beaches in this part of the island are disappointing, The sand is more of a golden colour no where near white (if you want gorgeous pure white sand head to bavaro its stunning there the beach really is postcard perfect ) The hotel as 2 small private beaches which are ok, but like i said golden sand not white, if you head into sosua itself you will find a bigger beach which again is golden.

We didnt really head outside the hotel very much apart from once or twice to buy a cpl of souveniers as it proved way too much hassle from the locals tryin to get you into there shops. Which is ok for the first cpl times but gets boring when all you want to do is hav a nice leisurely stroll to the beach and little look in occasional shop. All the shops sell exactly the same stuff and you have to barter. (I like to have a look around browsing and go bk at end of hol to buy) but it isnt tht simple here they want you to buy now.

A firm no is all it takes and they will leave you alone, can be a little intimidating at first though.

The nightlife is ok, we went out with one of the lads from the hotel to have a look around at night and although it meant we didnt get any hassle it was a real eye opener. But defo worth it just to get a real feel for the place. The night life on the resort is ok, nothin spectacular there is nightly shows n a disco, the shows didnt really interest us altho we did pop down one evening and a lot of time and effort is put into them.

Altho i wouldnt go back to the north as i now prefer to head to Bavaro (tht is purely because i am a beach person) It is still a lovely place and we had an amazing time, a holiday is wot you make it, just remember that.

The dominican ppl are lovely an absolute treat to meet and get to know, yes they may hassle you wen you leave the hotel but it is just there way.

The food on the resort is very nice, plenty of choice, i am a really fussy eater and always managed to find something.

Hope you have a great holiday, be nice to know what you thought when you get bk. x

  2. Hi!,

Casa Marina in Sosua, is a good hotel and generally spoken has a good reputation. The beach is just fantastic, not that white but close to coral white. There is a good night life in the little town of Sousa, but don't take to much valuable things with you (gold, rings) and limit your amount of cash just enough to spend a nice evening. Trips, there are plenty for sale inside the hotel (expensive) and outside. We at platinium travel we have two exclusive trips (not for sale in/out the hotel) Isabella Historica (day trip on Wednesday or Sunday) and VIP Shopping in Santiago (Friday) we of course have also all the other excursions, even catamaran and whale watching. If you want more info just contact me at my

    e-mail. Anyway enjoy it!

  3. i have stayed about 10mins away & have actually been into the hotel. so i can tell you a little about the area.

we also went on about 3 trips with people staying at CMR. unfortunately at the time we were there, the hotel had food poisoning. well so the people told us anway. many were sick with something, but do not fear, just be careful of getting dehydrated & careful of meat etc thats been sitting out for a while.

the CMR hotel is a great complex, the beaches are beautiful around this area but i am unsure exactly of the CMR one. our hotel had a private section of beach & it was lovely. the sand isn't quite pure white, but they're d**n good beaches thats for sure! its more or less paradise, there's lots of locals on the beaches trying to sell things, it kinda takes away the paradise feeling slightly.

trips are plentiful. if your tour company doesnt do them, your hotel will. i would recommend the monster trucks (dont wear your best clothes for this!!) and also maybe swimming with sharks/dolphins at the marina place (ocean world!?). we really enjoyed this, but we did feel the animals in captivity didnt have a lot of space etc. good day out though.

p.s 2 good websites for hotel reviews & local info:

    debbies dominican travel

    and tripadvisor
