  1. No.

If they (American Airlines) were bankrupt, all of their flights would be canceled.  They aren't.

Not flying will save jet fuel but doesn't make you money.  It is better to be flying, paying for jet fuel, and making a profit than having planes sitting on the ground and still costing you money.

  2. The airlines sometimes play dangerous games balancing thin profit margins which means many times they fly aircraft that should be retired as any airframe has a limited number if cycles the airframe can go through before it is just too expensive to perform the required maintenance to keep it legally airworthy. The temptation to let some things go until the next inspection is always there like the  Alaska airlines  MD-80 jackscrew fiasco that ended up killing a plane load of people, when all they had to do was make sure the jackscrew actuator(critical part) was properly lubricated a bunch of people wouldn't have died needlessly. Suspicious, yeah  am. as until they re regulate the airlines  I refuse to step onto a commercial airliner with the current state of the industry as getting stranded somewhere would be the least of you're problems.  I think that boarding an airliner right now is risky as you have no idea if proper maintenance was done or is there a bomb in the baggage compartment, not the mention the harassment you get in the airport just getting on the aircraft I drive thank you very much, and if my trip requires flying, then I won't go.

  3. it is not a consiracry to save fuel.  The attached link is to a news story out of MIA.  An AA Super 80 must burn off fuel to make an emergeny landing.  Does not sound like a fuel saving measure to me.

  4. right, i think you may be on your own there mate

  5. there is definately something we're not supposed to know.

  6. Not necessarily, you see when a delay is forecasted say 1 hour then another hour passenger must be compensated in terms of meal, let us say flight is at 9am given a delay of 1 hr. would give the pax a snack but it was moved to another 2hr, then lunch must be served without being sure the snag will be fix. We call this delay "creeping" delays as it goes on and on, so head of airline marketing just cancel the flight for the day and aircraft next flight with changes on all aircraft schedules (1 cancelled flight than all flights getting delayed is better)say at 3 its available then will give it to the 4pm flight.
