Anyone taken Algebra 1 Honors?

I'm going into eighth grade and I got put into Algebra 1 Honors. Since it's the hardest level of math at my school I wondered what they covered in that class so I know what to expect. If you've taken the class I would really appreciate your help. Thanks!

  1. I got put into that class as well when I was in 8th grade.  It wasn't that hard for me because it built so much on Pre-Algebra before it.  You'll be fine.  If you really need to know the curriculum, you could google (or whichever search engine) Algebra 1 Curriculum in [enter state where you live].  Good luck!

  2. they have that for some of the sixth graders at our school and they go over almost everything in difficult math i can think of.

  3. oh wow algebra is like the beginning of math. you merely thought you were doing math before. algebra is where you learn most of the formulas that will follow you for the rest of your mathematical life. you will learn about polynomials, factoring, variables, sine, cosine, tangent, etc. but this is just a preview. algebra only introduces these things. you put them into real use in geometry. and then you learn a bunch more in algebra II and put them to use in trigonometry. it is pretty challenging because you have to memorize all these formulas. there is no short cut :-(

  4. You can expect to be challenged. Don't worry about it - you will find out soon enough. You wouldn't be there if they didn't think you could handle it.

  5. I've already taken Algebra 1 and it's very easy; that is if you enjoy doing math to a certain point. Since you're in honors, be prepared to work at a fast pace. Math you can't really put at different levels; especially Honors and GT really; you always learn the same concept but just at a different pace.

In Algebra I, you will be covering:

Polynomials, quadratics, scientific notation, system of equations, writing equations, graphing equations, absolute value and absolute value equations, probability, inequalities, compound inequalities, expressions and equations, exponents, factoring, etc.

Remember to study hard and pay attention. Algebra 1 is used in Algebra 2 which is more complex. If you don't understand something, ask because Algebra 2 is VERY hard and requires a lot of algebra 1 skills.

  6. Congratulations!!!!!

If you enjoy doing basic math problems, this class will be fun.

It will cover basic Math Properties like the Communitive, Associative and Identity Property to name a few. You will use them without even realizing for the rest of your math career.

You are about to use everything you learned in math earlier but with more applications to life. Like adding but with variables; lines but numbered lines, circles, squares, but with formulas.

You'll be introduced to equations with variables and numbers. Variables are letters or symbols that represent numbers or groups of numbers. You'll learn about powers and the rules for multiplying, adding, etc powers.

In the end you will probably be introduced to graphing which will start you on your way to equations of two variables x and y and how they work together. This will prepare you for higher math like geometry, trigonometry, etc....

If you don't understand, ask your teacher or mentor or Yahoo Answers!

  7. You can do this one, otherwise you wouldn't be in that class. Its not really difficult. H20 already mentioned what to expect. Good luck. (:
