  1. I actually found the multiple choice quite easy because some of those question were repeated in past regents. There were only about 2 i really had problems with which was the one about what is a problem with nuclear power plants. I picked it was hard to dipose of waste but I thought it could also be the products cause acid rain because I thought that nuclear power plants emit a lot of carbon dioxide or something causing acid rain. I don't know...maybe I'm thinking too deeply into it. I also guess on one multiple choice question Xe, but I don't really remember the quesiton, it was something like which of these elements will fill up a 2.0L box uniformily. I thought the short answers were harder than normal like everyone else. The answers people have been posting for those harder questions seem too simple too be correct. I think I'm just being paranoid.

  2. i just took it. im not really sure how i did, but i left with 30 mins to spare. im waitin for em to post it, according to the grade conversion chart, they curve your grade up. so thats good.

    im sure i passed.

    i think.

  3. I just finished taking it. It wasn't that bad, the multiple choice were easy but some of the fill in questions were a bit challenging =/

Like that question with the molar polarity and intermolecular force thing.. i was like WTF lol

other thna that it was ok..not to easy not to hard

I wish you luck, even though you probably took it already =) Let's stay positive =) I was so nervous 0_0 but i studied a lot..my brain hurts now and moreover i have to study for the global regnts now for tomorrow.

    anyways best of luck

  4. That regents was INSANE. That was ten times harder than ANY practice regents I took. The multiple choice wasn't TOO bad...but those short answer?

I thought the intermolecular forces/molecular polarity one was easy, same with the collision theory with H2, but still...

I have never stayed the full three hours at a regents before,

I'm always done early and I'm always confident with this stuff.

But this regents was crazy. It took me an hour and a half to do the multiple choice, and those short answer?

It took me an hour just to figure out what they were even ASKING.

The balancing problem on the last page-

I was balancing by charge, not by mass, the entire time...

So I wound up leaving it blank because I thought it didn't work.

    I soooo bombed that =\

  5. I thought the multiple choice was quite simple.

There were a few tricky ones thrown in there, but most of them were easy if you read off your reference tables.

    The short/long answer ones...

the intermolecular/molecular polarity one was difficult and the spectrum one.

Whoever had the question about balancing.. it was to put one 2 in front of i think the second spot. everything else remained blank. =)

I'm nervous to see my grade :/

But theres always august to retake it, hahah

  6. chia, you hjave to talk about the shift of the equilibrium. and i think that the test was hard/. part b was so easy but part a i got like 10 multiple choice wrong...

the answer for the speectrum is when you gain energy you go to a higher energy level but as you loose energy you fall down and release different color spectrums.

  7. just took the test. It's ok. There are only two questions in part two i am not sure of. One is the one about using the collision theory to illustrate y the concentration of H2 decrease and the second one is the one about the effect of intermocular and polar force on boliling point.

Any questions, we can discuss about it.

  8. I put 1's in front of the others [balancing] just in case the graders thought i didnt know what to put. do you guys think they're gonna mark me down for that?

i honestly thought it was killer. and it's 20% of my final grade. whoopdeedoo.

are there any chem teachers out there who saw the test and have any thoughts on it compared to other years?

  9. just took the test also and i have to agree with previous points. part 2 left me giving unsure answers (i guess u could call em guesses =P) but i'm known in my school for being the ultimate guesser and the answer i gave is similar to the one stated above for intermolecular/polarity

the test wasn't in all that hard, the questions were just nerve racking, for example the balancing question i spent like, 20 minutes on and then when i actually thought it out, you'll lol at how simple it was. Overall it was a good test it's just that the curve for it is disastrous... =P

  10. I took it last year it was kinda hard. i pyched my self out though. i actually did really good I got like a 95.

so everyone dont get too scard.

  11. i just took it and it was really hard. just like every1 else i also think the practice regents i took was easier then this one. i feel really bad because i changed one of the right answer to a wrong answer in multiple choice and that totally sucks and yeah i heard that usually ur first choice is usually the best one =(.

Btw the last question in the test was easy the answer was in the paragraph itself if u read it closely my teacher told me after the test. i hope i get atleast a 80 if low then nothing low then 70.

  12. i'm actually not studying today

in class and at home i took practice regents exams and didn't do too well =/ although in the actual class i get high 90s

    i'm really worried

but everything'll be okay .. just go to sleep and eat that's all that matters

  13. this regents was reallly hard. I did practice regents that were way easier then this. THis is like hard as an early 2000 regents.

Multiple choice was alright but i think i did good on it.

THE REST WAS SO HARD. except for certain questions.

I hope did ok. I hope i get in the 80s.

3 hours and i didnt finish. I was on 76 when time came up.

I hope theres a good curve on this

  14. Just took the test.  Well that really wasn't that hard at all.  I got 2 multiple choice wrong, and possibly nothing off on part 2.

The conversion chart is up if anyone wants to see it.

  15. I am taking this test tomorrow too. There is nothing to worry about! Just relax and take your time and make sure you read all of the questions very carefully because they throw interesting things at you.

Just know that if you can get above a 35 out of 50 on the multiple choice, you are pretty much guarenteed to pass as long as you don't mess up the part 2's too badly.

The best wasy to study is to take practice regents and review what you have trouble with because they repeat so many questions! Don't worry, everyone will be fine!!

  16. anybody else who was panicking like crazy??

lik taking deep breaths & trying to calm yourself?

maybe i shouldn't have drank coffee, but the test was really hard.

the teachers at my school said it was really hard too.

    i hope i passed.....and i'm a good student too.

    and i studied a lot!!!

the intermolecular forces question wasn't hard, and the last question about the smoke detector? the answer was right in the reading.

i had the most trouble with the moles and calculations and stuff. it seems lik a lot of this test was math, and that really screwd me over....

  17. I also took this regents this afternoon, I agree, it was quite hard. I did well on the multiple choice but then when I got to the constructed response, I got nervous. Some of the topics my teacher never taught my class about. Then I spoke to my cousin who lives over an hour away, and I found that her friends said the same thing, that they did well with the M/C and had a hard time with the C/R.  Some teachers were saying that this year's was one of the hardest in 10 years. The teachers over there told the students that some of the questions weren't even part of the curriculum, so maybe if we're lucky, the schools will fight it enough and we'll get some points back. As for me, I am really hoping that I got at least an 85% on the test because so far, I've gotten nothing less than a 92% on any of my regents and I'm really hoping to be eligible for mastery awards. Plus, my mom says that if I don't get higher than an 85 then I have to retake it, and I really don't want to!!!! My parents say that I'm more than capable......and now tomorrow i have the global history regents, then thursday is math B (although i am not at all worried about math b) and then next tuesday is spanish. ugh.......my brain is fried!!! i don't want to have to write a thematic essay tomorrow!!

  18. i took the chem regents this afternoon too.

i don't know why everyone thinks it was so hard.

i thought the questions were pretty fair and nothing was really like wayyyyy out there. but my brain is fried now from all the studying and the global regents is tomorrow. gahh.

but anyway, i'm hoping for at least an 85 on this test.

    D:

  19. I am taking the test in 1 hour. Last night I did a practice exam from old regents tests. That is the way to go. Just keep doing regents until the test. They repeat so many questions so "repeition is the key to retention" - biology class

  20. i honestly thought it was easy...

i had a good teacher and maybe thats why but you can ask me any question on that test and i think i can tell you..

    i think i got a 100

the ones you were confused on were...Xe for the 2L beaker thing because its a gas.. the nuclear power plant one was about disposing wastes because they have long half lives... the balancing one was simple.. you just put a 2 in front of the 3rd one... if there are any other questions let me know

  21. Well i took it a few hours ago and that test was brutal, NOTHING like the Barren's practice regents which i took that i aced. The multiple choice was challenging as was the long response, i got the intermolecular forces question incorrect by stating that hydrogen bonds were held within the first structure and saying it had the higher boiling point. Bad guess lol. Anyone know when/where they are posting the results of the regents?

  22. im taking it =/  I never really thought the practice exams were that hard so im just looking over the 2008 review book and maybe looking over some old tests...try to go over the stuff about what certain elements are used for, like Co-66 for killing bacteria and cancer...they like those questions there always seems to be one or two

  23. omg i took it and i dont noe wat to saii..i think out of 50 in the multiple choice i got mid 40s..or low 40s..nd yes this WAS one of the HARDEST regents ever..in the previous ones..topics were repetive and basic..this year's was like WHOA.. im thinking to retake it in august..

  24. omg im taking it tomorrow and i heard its usually hard. i got the barron's review book and im reviewing topics i dont understand...also, re-read your notes and learn how to use the reference table.

i think the battery/voltmeter thing will be on it.

anyway, go to bed early, review a little before you go to school and relax. goodluck to everyone taking in..we all need it lol =]

  25. yeah the chemistry wasn't really hard now that i look at it, but

i think that i went through it too fast. but i think that you all should worry about the math b and the global was easy. the math b will be a lot harder than last year. the regents' normally go through cycles, easy, med, really hard. and last year was hard, and this year was decent. some i completely guessed on, but others i knew. you can always retake them, so just try to find out your grade and start studying sooner for the ones in august.

  26. If you have Time Warner Cable television and live in NY, you can go on channel 1111. It's called New York City on Demand and has review for all regents - Math A, Math B, Chemistry, Bio, Earth Science, Physics, World Civ, all major languages, english, etc. The guy that teaches it is kind of weird (REALLY weird), but he helped me understand stuff. I'm also using my Barren's book. You can also go to Barnes and Noble and get this book called High Mark in Chemistry - it was recommended by my teacher. My advice is to use the red Barren's book because the blue one never really worked for me. Good luck to everyone and remember : when in doubt, use your reference table! (;

  27. ahh im talking it tomorrow also. so nervous!  im pretty much reviewing what i did in the beginning of the year - like mole conversions and like ppm - whatever that is . and like equilibruim and stuff like that, oh and everyone : make sure you know the famous scientist like dalton and jj thompson - my teacher said they sometimes ask questions about what they contributed to the scienctific world

  28. I thought it was easy. Some of the B and C questions were tricky , but I just read them over again and thought about it and I was able to figure them out, for the most part.

I could not though do that stupid equation and we had to balance it! I couldn't remember if (OH)2 counted as 2O's and 2H's or it was one of each. I literally spend my last hour on that one question trying to work it out.

BUT, ten minutes left and I think I go it, so i was just like, "I hate this" and left :D

  29. the one about balancing the equations it was just that i think the third one needed a two everything else just had a one...lol and that person took onw hour on it. this test was actually pretty hard it was nothing like the previous regents. it sucks for us because our generation is right in the middle. before everything was dumbed down but now the state is in the process of making everyhting more difficult...so that means tests are harder for us. i have global regents tomorrow, then math b on thursday, and spanish on tuesday.. im doomed for global and it kinda depends on math b

  30. The curve is awful, even worse than other years... wow.

    Harder test: worse curve?

They curve you down almost 2 points in the 80's and 90's.

Everyone: here's one possible answer to the Intermolecular force problem that everyone's complaining about.

    ____

Molecular polarity: Molecules of 2-iodo-2-methylpropane are polar molecules. Molecules of 2-methylpropane are not as polar. The more polar a molecule is, the stronger its intermolecular forces are.

Intermolecular forces: Since the intermolecular forces of 2-iodo-2-methylpropane are stronger than the intermolecular forces of 2-methylpropane due to polarity, more energy is required to pull the molecules apart, thus giving the 2-iodo-methylpropane a higher boiling point.

    ____

that was similar to my answer, or at least what i remember.

I honestly think that the test was much more difficult than the other regents exams. Not "unfair" just much more difficult.

  31. i'm taking the test tommorow as well. My friend told me about this thing called "200 ways to pass the chemistry physical setting regents exam". It's very helpful. It summarizes chemistry information in an easy and simple manner. If you want to use it, just google it. Good Luck.
