Question:

Anyone that's used the Mirena IUD??

I get mine on Wednesday and I was wondering what the insertion process is like? Painful, uncomfortable? And how should I expect to be feeling afterwards?

My doctor is a guy, lol, so he can't really describe it like a woman with it can.

And the next question is:

If you're married and you and your partner are faithful, do you have to worry about using any other b/c methods? Can you just have s*x with no worries (not having to 'be careful', lol) whenever?

Thanks in advance!

  1. Hi,

I actually just had a Mirena inserted today (still experiencing the cramping too).

But it's all set up like a gyno exam. (you can keep your shirt on though). :)  I came in during my period, cuz the cervix is more softer when a girl is menstruating. Also, take an IB Profin before you go! I took one when I got there, but I cramped badly driving all the way home until it kicked in.

Its only like 10 minutes, My doctor talked me through everything, which helped. She offered me a shot to numb it, otherwise it would feel like severe cramping....But I don't like needles, so I choose the cramping instead. They put a device to hold the cervix in place, which felt like a pinching. Then, they placed a device that measures the inner-width of your cervix...That was when the severe cramping began. It was no picnic, haha...

You just felt it pushing up inside, to the very spot you have normal cramps, & that's where it cramped the worst. It felt like she kept the device in. Until a few moments later, I felt like something was "sliding in", like through a tube I mean. (it was the iud). I was already experiencing the cramps from the 1st device, but when the IUD was inserted, it was definately doubled. At one point, i kinda wished I had the shot, lol. But now I'm okay. She took out both devices, one at a time. Each time she did, it relieved the presure a bit more.

While driving home, I experience the most of the after effect. My IB Profin hadn't kicked in, & I was groaning. It was like severe cramps -more than a typical period. that was like 4 hours ago, but it's calmed down a lot. Just very light cramping now, as long as the meds are in my system. I hear Midol works good too.

I guess I'll be feeling waves of cramping for a few days. But it should get better as time goes by. Girls will also bleed for a while from the insertion, but we can't put anything inside, not even tampons. I'm still on my period, & I hate pads, but its my doctor's orders...

Hope this helps you. Take the shot!!

    haha, j/k it's tolerable.

  2. I had one for a month and got it taken out. Insertion was more ore less uncomfortable. I had cramps afterwards but was totally fine the next morning. I did not like it at all, I had period like bleeding the whole 5 weeks I had it in, I gained 3 lbs. I personally did not like it, however, a lot of women love it. When I called the company about the bleeding they said that could last 6-12 months, while others have spotting for a week or so and then nothing. It works right away so you don't have to use anything if you and your partner are completley faithful.

  3. I have had it for 4 years now. I really like it. It hurt during the insertion process and I had cramps for the rest of the night. I was fine the next day. I have practically no periods now because of it too. Because it does work right away and I am in a committed relationship there is no need for me to use alternative protection.
