Anyone know about adoption? Really need help...?

I am going to list a website.

Anyone that know about adoption please have a look. They have photos of children on there so do you think if you call them and then fly there they will let you adopt one of their children at the orphanage?

This would seem a lot more easy than going through an adoption agency like some people and waiting for a long time to finally recieve a child. Am I right?

  1. These children are not available for adoption. Here is this from their FAQ section:

"Q. What do I have to do to adopt one of those children?

    A. The children residing at Casa Emiliano Tardif are not up for adoption. This decision was based on several factors, including the processing costs, legal problems due to the recent traffic of children and organs, and the fact that many of the children are abandoned and not really orphans. Sometimes the parents get rehabilitated, and reclaim their children."

Adoption isn't easy. Parenting isn't easy! And really, it shouldn't be easy to adopt, because parenting an adopted child is parenting plus, and if it were too easy then people would adopt without being properly prepared to parent the child.

And if you are adopting from another country and especially transracially from another country, there are a lot of things to consider. The child will be losing not only his/her first family -- but also their first country, culture, usually language. And they may be growing up as a person of color in a society still full of racism -- and likely with parents that aren't prepared to help them cope with racism or develop a healthy self-identity as a person of color.

I'm sorry if that sounds harsh. I'm not trying to be harsh, but I'm tired and it is late and things aren't coming out as well as I would like. Sorry! But I do want potential adoptive parents to think a good while before adopting internationally or transracially.

One possibly easier way to adopt is through foster care. That is certainly the cheapest way, and the children are often very much in need of a loving home. It can be fairly fast also, especially if you are willing to adopt an older child or siblings.

I have more to say, but as I said it is late and my thoughts aren't that clear.

  2. Sounds a lot like the way the rescue league markets unwanted pets.

Maybe you'd benefit from learning more about adoption as it affects the adoptee, that is what you want to obtain, right?

  3. We adopted through the foster care system, but I know it is often a long process and no guarantees. I would suggest you talk to people who have adopted. My sister adopted from Guatemala. She checked into the agency very thoroughly before sending money. I personally know some people who started the adoption process but failed because the agency went bankrupt or the child was adopted to someone else before they finished the process. It sounds like a good place because it's not such a long process, but I thought in every state in the U.S. you had to be licensed in order to adopt. There are a lot of bad agencies and many horror stories about adoption.

  4. It looks like they only are asking for $ donations for the children, not that they are available for adoption.  I would check and other agencies.  In the US, children are available directly from the foster care system ready to adopt.  You may want to look at that option as well.

  5. I recommend adopting a Vietnamese child from a Catholic organization in Vietnam. The kids there are really in need, even the kids who have parents, so imagine those that are abandoned. The war has really affected many of them. It would be nice to adopt one of them. Angelina Jolie adopted a Vietnamese boy just recently.Good luck with the search.
