although i dont live in mexico, my wife is a mexican citizen and we travel all over mexico...  in my opinion, the best place to honeymoon in mexico is cancun. while overrated by some...it remains the easiest to get to, the safest for tourists, most hotels have english speaking staff, roads are in excellent condition and well-marked and has the most beautiful beaches in mexico. very few places in the world boasts world-class beaches, archaeological sites, shopping and cuisine in a locale as exotic as cancun. when you get tired of paying cancun prices, rent a car and drive to the interior or off the beaten path to get a sample of great cheap eats and unbelievable deals on everything from hammocks to jewelry.

more romantic and quiet than cancun is isla mujeres...  it is a small island reachable by ferry from cancun. i proposed to my wife there in a gazebo overlooking the ocean...
