What kind of work do you do? Did you have to go to school for it? Do you make good money? Did you go to school before or after having your children? The reason I am asking is because I am 19 have a 2 month old son I am in college but I really dont know what I want to do anymore I thought I wanted to do forensics but im not good in chem and the job isnt what I expected I thought about nursing, surgical tech...ect I am good at typing and office work but I would like to make more than 9.00 dollars an hour. How do I figure out what I want to do?

  1. I overheard a group of professors talking one day at my school- and this is what they said...

Some of the required courses for the medical programs such as chem, a &p, etc. are strictly there to weave out the students that really don't have an interest and push the ones that do. So, if you really want something you should really 'stick to your guns' regardless if it is hard.

I would suggest figuring out your hobby whether its medicine or animals and go from there. Pick a field and research the careers. Nursing and Surg. tech are also going to have 'hard' courses. Maybe look into the LVN program (which is easier than the RN) or a Medical assistant- they don't make A LOT but its something to get you started on the right path.

  2. First, to the person who answered first, not all chem courses get curved. It all depends on the prof.

Now, about the questions. Nursing will have chemistry courses, but not a lot of them. What I would suggest is to take a test that shows what you are good at. Second, go to the college counselor and talk with them. They will help you decide what to do. They will tell you what jobs are hot in your area, how much you can expect to earn, etc. Don't just rush through school to get done. My daughter did that. She got a BS in biology, but there are not jobs for that in our area. She can't leave the area due to custody issues. She started out to be one thing, got tired of it, and just finished as fast as she could with no idea of what she was going to do. If she had asked my opinion, I would have encouraged her to take time off from school, get her head straight and then go back. She is now going back to school for nursing. She is more mature, more determined and settled in what she wants. As long as you are doing ok financially, don't rush things unless you know what you want to do. You'll be doing it for a long time.

  3. If you were thinking about nursing, I sugest working with animals or at a zoo.  It'll require a degree in Biology or Zoology, but there are only a few chem classes you'd have to take and ALL the tests get curved because everyone did so horribly.  I should have failed, but got a C!!!  It's not too hard!
