Anyone think, that the soaps are getting sillier, without any real meaning to the stories?

Every so often, Soap Opera Digest complains about the amount of mob-related stories on General Hospital. Which is worse, too much mob or 1981's "freeze-the-world" and 1990's "Casey the alien" stories?

   OMG !!!!!  Let me count the ways.   Even for an old time "soap junkie" like me, they are getting worse and worse than they ever were.   I tape the ones I watch, and I am glad I do.  Lately, more often than not, I am fast forwarding through a big chunk of the shows, while I am thinking why am wasting my time.  It seems like the quality of the writing has just gotten so shoddy, it's a wonder the actors can get some of those awful lines out of their mouths.

I will go ahead and say that SOME soaps are getting sillier, and continue to go around in circles. In B&B, for example, it seems that there is just a constant struggle between a love triangle. There is no point to some storylines; they are so unrealistic and don't plague half of us.

However, there are MANY soaps that are not silly, which are true and genuine. They are drama-fulfilled and people enjoy watching them. "As the World Turns" is my favorite soap opera, by a huge margin, and I have grown up watching it. They incorporate issues, such as homophobia, into their storylines. Those are the types of soaps I like to view; ones that are literally out to make a issue known.
