Question:

Anyone think they should create an MMA division on yahoo answers?

Because it's quite different from regular martial arts and it gets confusing, it's like how they have a separate section for boxing, MMA has gotten big enough for the media questions to overpower the technical questions, there are many hypothetical fights, score questions, UFC predictions, etc. Mixing in with technical questions about other martial arts, 85% of the questions on Martial arts are about MMA, so what do you think? Do you feel that Media questions and score questions about MMA make sense being on the martial arts section or should it go in a new MMA category?

  1. Hold on let me get this straight. You want a separate section for Mixed Martial arts even though there is a Martial Arts section?

Well apart from the obvious you do have some good points, especially with the amount of MMA related questions but still I don't think it would happen.

  2. I understand what your saying, although I think you may be exaggerating a bit on 85% of questions in martial arts being about MMA. I like having them together though. I have answered many questions that had absolutely nothing to do with MMA and quite a few that did and I love both quite a lot as a good number of others do as well.

I think separating them would almost be like moving backwards, for decades if not centuries if you did 1 style you stayed away from every other style and it led to a weakening of many many styles not a strengthening of the styles. I for 1 don't want to see us start moving back into that kind of close mindedness, separating ourselves.

  3. Yup and its been discussed for the many months I've been on here.

edit- to those below thinking it would be bad or unfair to MMA to have martial arts split into different sections. I think that it's not the sport of MMA or the study that is the issue, and like its been mentioned before it's the loonies that are causing the problems.

I would think that they should take MMA/Martial Arts and split it into a sports and philosophy sections. This way the people who watch the events and like asking about chuck norris and bruce lee can do that on the sports section and those that take it seriously can do it in the philosophy section.

Granted we won't get rid of all the loonies, but we should make a sizable dent in the amount of BS that doesn't get filtered.

  4. you have a point because really boxing is a martial art aswell so MMA should get its on section or at least all the people who ask questions about the UFC should go put it in a TV section instead of the martial arts area.

  5. While I think you have valid points, I do not think it would be wise, here's why:

Many MMA fighters began their training learning traditional martial arts (TMA) and although they now train a mixed style, they are still very much interested in the traditional styles too.

Plus they are very knowledgeable about different types of martial arts, not just one.

Personally, I think mixing MMA with TMA questions and answers helps because there is a good mixture of information from varying perspectives.

Hope this helps, let me know!

  6. Hi there

Yes its been mentioned many times before and even brought to Yahoo's attention. Sadly having been on here for a while now i dont think it's MMA or the UFC thats a problem its the crazy people that think that watching someone do it makes them an expert on the subject. I think a muppets martial arts section or childrens/fanatic section would be more appropriate!

To be honest all the martial arts forums on the web are crappy. It just goes to show that the only real place for real martial arts is in the dojo.

Now how many ninja's can you fit in a shoe box? lol

    Best wishes

  7. Ok lets have the MA section branch off into categorys like , Karate, Judo, JuiJitsu, Mui thai, kravmaga, taekwondo, and mixed martial arts, kung fu, wushu, ninjitsu, the list would go on and on.

We have questions on the front page that go back like 6 hours ago, if we split it up like that we would have questions from 2 days ago on the front page. I think its cool the way it is, if you dont like a question skip it and go on to the next one, or skip to the next page. The UFC questions are like 1 in every 10 its not that big a deal, what bugs me is the who'd  win in a fight questions Chuck Norris or Bigfoot.
