  1. Trans Mongolian for me. Twice each way. It branches away south from the Trans-Siberian  to cross Mongolia into China.

    Take your time on it. Get the multi-step ticket which allows you travel the route in stages. Otherwise it's just a very very very very long train journey. Do NOT do it alone. A group of three should be considered a minimum. Five is best.

    Done right and with the right people it's the ride of a lifetime. Done wrong or with people who just want to get drunk, puke in the cabins and start trouble it's a never-ending trip through h**l.

    You need to book well in advance if you want a good berth because the travel companies buy them in blocks

    it is thankfully different now but I've heard that the grub is not to good
