  1. I'm just furious of these people giving advices but no such respect of the other arts at all! I have practiced kenpo yet i've no intention disrespecting the other arts (Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai, etc). Pls do not discourage other people just because you base everything on what you watch in the UFC. & for these ignorant people, I've got 2 words - 'mass attack'. What's your BJJ/Muay Thai gonna do if you were attacked by 2 or more aggressors? I've yet to see this in the UFC?

Kenpo is not flashy at all...it goes deeper than words could explain. But one of the philosophies were, you start the fight-we decide when to end it.

Schedule a visit where the adult black belts are in class-i think you'll find a better understanding of the art instead of listening to these people.

    -respect

  2. yea duh im a black belt punk so get the **** off my back you b*****d before i own u.

  3. kenpo might be fun  but i really dont see it being all that practical  i mean the combos are so freaking  long why not do in two moves what kempo does in 10 or so

  4. Wing Chun is effective, if u knwo how to use it, its the same for all martial arts, even capoeria, sure capoeria seems to be somehwat of a dance, but if u get kicked by one of those fighters ull be down, because they put their whole body into the kick. Also sure there are alot of TKD places that make the art look like its pure c**p b/c there are mcdojos, but there are people out there that have used TKD in such a manner that it is extremely effective, try to not say this art sucks and this doesnt because its not true, the fighter who uses it may not be the best, but there are fighters who know what to do forward and backwards.

As for Kenpo, Kenpo is Street Fight, and is extremely effective putting u into scenarios you will face in real life, some Kenpo gyms like mine also use other martial arts techniques since everyone in our gym has a background in something. Kenpo is a very good martial arts Very fast and powerful, it teaches u how to make the oppoent back of or even take him down.

  5. There are many styles of Martial Arts. You just have to do research and find which one would be best for you. Good Luck !!

  6. If looking for kenpo try if you near you Tai karate or tai kenpo by GM David German. Good stuff look it up google tai karate.

  7. Kenpo is no joke. Chuck liddel's foundation is on that art.  It is very combat efficient so don't let people tell you otherwise. It will help you develop fast hands which will aid your mma.

  8. this is always the big debate.

do you want to do martial arts for flashiness, and skill. In that case go for stuff like capoeira, wing chun etc. Flashiness no effectiveness.

or do you see martial arts as whooping the c**p out of other people. In that case go for BJJ, or muay thai or combine the two together. All effectiveness no flashy c**p.

my opinion is don't go for those mid ranged, half *ssed martial arts like tae kwon do, or karate (shotokhan, goju ryu, kenpo or whatever). Trust me on this you'd be bored out of your mind, and seriously real life scenario, you're not going to do a flying six foot reverse hook to sweeper.

  9. Dr. Hexagon's answer is clearly foolish.

Wing Chun has never been considered "Flashy".

As someone else mentioned, Kenpo is used by Chuck Liddell.

Shotokan Karate is used by Lyoto Machida.

Tae Kwon Do and Kung Fu San Shou is used by Cung Le.

Kyokushin Karate is used by Georges St. Pierre.

Anyway, to your question.  I have done Kenpo karate and I think it's a great martial art, especially as a foundation martial art.

You will learn real life practical self defense, some grappling, and most likely the sport side of it as well.

    Good luck!

    James

  10. I believe the same thing. I learn multiple martial arts but I learn them separate and in their entirety. For believing the same thing as me you get a star! And no I haven't tried Kenpo Karate (American Kenpo) but I know a police officer who has and he's a pretty good fighter.
