Question:

Anyone use the Motivated Moms Chore Planning List?

I'm referring to the chore planning system found at http://motivatedmoms.com/, not the group that sells unknown products.

How did the program/list work for you? Are there changes that you would recommend? Did you find it most useful to do the chores all at once, or space them through the day?

I'm a SAHM to two boys aged 7 and 5. I was a working mom until a little over a month ago and due to schedule and situation my husband is the one who took care of nearly all the cooking and cleaning. I'm a bit of a slob by nature, but really want to provide a clean and tidy home for my family. This is my job now, and want to do it to the best of my ability, but could really use any additional pointers you have.

  1. I just downloaded it two weeks ago, so I don't have very much experience. I'm currently expecting my first child any day now and just started working at home. I find on days that I work only four hours a week I can get to most of the stuff on the daily list, but days where I'm busier and have to work 8+ hours I can't get to the list at all.

The thing I like about the list is that it's very simple and suggests cleaning or organizing things that I've never really thought of doing regularly before. I know cleaning things more often means that it's less of a huge ugly mess to clean at the end of the year, now I'm putting it to the test. I also have two cats that shed a lot, and it is probably less disgusting and faster to dust more often.

I downloaded the two days per page to save paper.

I like it better than Fly Lady because I really really like to check things off list, and it lists tasks without having to read though corny puns and jokes. If I don't get to something, that's fine, I'll do it next week, or when it comes up again. Anything is better than me doing it once a year.

It does cost some, but not much, and I was always thinking of doing something like this anyway in outlook calendar or something, I was just always too lazy. At nine months I'm happy to have someone else think for a while.

I usually space the chores throughout the day. I work some, throw in the laundry in the morning, work some, put laundry in the dryer, put dishes away, work some, mop something, work more, etc. It gets me up from the computer and my blood flowing. I mention some things on the list to my husband and sometimes he does it. He does his own set of things already that is on the daily list. The chores are broken up very well, so I imagine it would be easy to delegate to kids as well, like hey, want to wipe down the front of the dishwasher every two weeks? Kids like to check things off of lists too!

I have also cut down on the amount I feel I have to clean on weekends because most of the stuff is done on weekdays. That's what we used to do, like all of the laundry and bathrooms on weekends. I think cleaning tubs is on Thursdays and mirrors are on Wednesdays. It used to take me half a Saturday to do all the bathrooms in the house, but it's easier to do small 5 minute tasks spaced over the week.
