Question:

Anyone used Behr Exterior Premium Plus Ultra -- the new "nanoguard" stuff?

Behr's literature claims that the stuff is primer and paint in one. Does anyone actually believe that if I paint my house that I will only have to use one coat and no primer? Or how about one coat of ordinary exterior primer and one coat of this new Behr nano stuff? Any ideas?

  1. I used it with great results. However i really didn't need a primer as the outside of the house had been painted before. Regardless i would highly recommend it and use it again. I have also used Behr regular primer and their ceiling paint which are both c**p.

I am a handyman who does a lot of painting.

TIP-- tint your primer the same as your paint to save a second coat.

  2. Please, do not read anything into this "nano" stuff.  Techinically it mean very small particles, nana in the metric system is way small that millimeters.  It is a buzz word that mean nothing about the product, in theory every paint product has nano particles within, we just don't have a way to see or measure them.  As a rule, always if possible on exterior, use an alkyd primer(oil) and latex topcoat(s) for new wood.  Existing wood will take two coats, maybe one, of a latex product.   Spot priming might be necessary if you have exposed wood.  When cleaning your surfaces, just water with the hose, NO PRESSURE washer and no cleaners.  These tend to leave to much residue which can cause adhesion problems.  good luck.
