Question:

Anyone using Abeka or other curriculum........?

The one thing that frustrates me with Abeka is all the teachers manuals, teacher curriculum books, test keys, quiz keys and answer keys. I love the curriculum, just not the amount of space it takes up.

My question is this....Have you ever removed the pages and put them all in a binder together, such as putting all science in one thicker binder, with all lesson plans, answers and keys and so on? If you have done this does it make it easier or just take up more time and space trying to bring out a bigger and heavier binder?

My other question is this.....If you have done this, has it hurt your resale value on the material or helped it? I have seen where some binder bound (removed from original binding) curriculums go for a bit more than the originally sold and vica versa.

Any help, advice or ideas on this would greatly be appreciative!

  1. We never had to sell any of our books because they were used for the next kid and the last kid got to write in them.  So I do not have an answer for your question, but I can sympathize with the space  dilemma!

  2. Abeka was really unproductive for our family.

  3. Its an interesting idea. I use abeka and love it. I have 3 children and three grades it does add up. If you put everything in binders you could pull out all the subjects for the week in one small binder together and then put them back when the week is over. I'm not sure if its worth the extra effort, but I have room. Each child has there own shelf. God Bless. Happy homeschooling.

  4. I use a lot of abeka.  I used to use my own curriculum and it was a lot tougher keeping track of all the necessary paperwork.  Not only have the answers but also come up with them and the test.  I don't recommend it.  I think putting them in a binder for weekly use or even quarterly would be a good idea.  Resale is fine as long as they are in good condition.  Some people will pay more for the extra binder some will find it annoying.  Do what works for you.

  5. Why not try it for just one subject (like Science) and see how it works (or doesn't)?  What works for someone else (pulling stuff out weekly) may not work for you, so try for yourself and see.  If it works, you can do the rest of the books.  If not, you haven't wasted your time/energy doing all of them.

Don't know how it would affect the re-sale value.  Since A Beka is pretty inexpensive to begin with, I'm not sure it could hurt.
