Anyone wanna try and figure this out?

Im in 7th grade and i really have no idea how to figure this out:

Bob and his dad visited the hardware store on Saturday. They observed the following transactions:Mr. Harris bought 4 for $0.50, Mrs. Clarke bought 21 for $1.00, Mr Montaro bought 1,134 for $2.00 and Ms Park bought 450 for $1.50. What were they buying?

Okay so how in the world am i supposed to know what they were buying??

It is a trick question,  They are actually buying the numerals 4 (one numeral), 21 (two numerals), etc.  maybe to stick on their mailbox or house.  And each sticker costs 50¢.  You can tell because it doesn't say 21 things, or 450 things, just 21 and 450

I had a question like this in my math class a few years ago. I can't remember the answer, but I think it it was a trick question; the answer might be something along the lines of "They all bought different items."

I have no clue either. Maybe it's a trick question? Are you sure you read it correctly? Most mistakes in word problems are that students don't read the question properly. Make an edit if you're wrong.
