anyways, I went and looked at him and he has foundered hard in the past and the lady has him on green, green pasture and it doesn't look like it's going to be long before he does it again and his feet fall apart...I told the lady but she doesn't have experience with that kind of stuff...I suggested putting him in a dry paddock....but I don't think it will happen. I feel bad for the poor guy as he has a great personality....but I can't bring home a heartache and that is what he would turn out to be...

On to better news...I ended up buying a 1/2 Fjord 1/2 belgian today...he's almost a year and a half old...I got him from a lady who has a ton of horses...she doesn't ride, they are all just pets...BIG PETS....anyways...he's never been handled...but he's friendly so I am bringing him home friday.

I'll add his picture in a second.

  1. Thats great about little George, hes a real cutie!

Hope you have alot of fun with him.

Im sorry to hear about the other gelding, I hope he doesnt founder again, altho as you said its likely he will. For his sake I hope he goes to a home with knowledge about founder and how to treat it because he is in for a horror future if he doesnt get the care he deserves.

    Thanks for the update!

  2. Geez...I'm having a horrible time with yahoo and the question index!  I saw your question, and when I came back to find it...it was gone!  Then it appears on another page!

Glad you found out about the paint...too bad the lady probably won't follow through.  She's probably killing him with kindness.  Keeping him on the green instead of a dry lot...*sigh*

Awesome deal for your new one though!  I also thought of the cartoon for "I will love him and pet him and stroke him and I will call him George."

Or the nursery rhyme "Georgie Porgie Pudding and Pie"

  3. aww hes cute

  4. He's adorable! That' a really cool breed combo.

Fjords are so sweet, but definitely sassy.

    Have fun with him. :)

  5. Congratulations - he sounds like a real bargain.

Spoilsport though - you should have asked the name question just to see how many actually suggested George !

  6. Glad you caught the problem with the paint.  Poor guy!  Can't save them all, and you need a horse you can ride.

You're funny!  "I will love him and squeeze him and call him George"...

Sure you don't want to name him Nixon?  Or how about Eisenhower?  Monroe? Oh dear...a horse named Monroe!  Just don't name him Bush!  haha

    Congrats on your new horse!

  7. What a good deal!  I wonder what he'll look like when he grows up.

  8. Congratulations....I love Fjords....he's adorable.

  9. Awe he's cute! Congrats on the new horse!

I think you made the right decision on not getting the other one and choosing him! It would have been sad if he foundered, I hope he gets off that rich pasture he sounded nice otherwise... Poor guy.

    Congrats again though!
