I am searching for a road bike and really don't know all too much about them, I have looked for some on craigslist just cause I'm a kid and want to get a rather cheap one, but still decent, 1000ish area. at any rate, i was wondering since i am 5'6, 5'7 what number cm I should be looking for like 54, or 56 something like that? Thanks, and this might be a really stupid question don't really know. Thanks again

  1. Best way to find out is to go to a bicycle shop and try one on for size.

  2. The best way of determining size is going to a bike shop and have them fit it for you to see what feels right.  The simple "standover test" is what most people go by.  Stand over top of the bike and the top tube (horizontal tube) should be extremely close to your crotch, but not touching.  If there is too much gap or it is physically touching you, then it is too small or two big.  There are plenty of resources for fitting out there, google bicycle fitting.

  3. At your height you will be looking at a 54 or a 56 just as you said. It is best to always buy from a bike store as professionals in store will be ale to fit you to than bike with how high the seat should be and how far back or forward it should be. Finally it is not a stupid question you have done the right thing and I hope you have fun.

  4. Brand wise, Scott, You'll never look back

  5. To get the proper fit, no one here can tell you what exact size to buy.  You have to go to the bike professionals.

When you buy a bike for $1000, you should expect a free, expert fitting.  If the shop you go to doesn't offer that service -- go someplace else with your money.  They didn't earn it.

    Have fun, ride hard!
