Was that not a horrible stoppage? Lee was definitely in trouble, and the fight could have been stopped a few seconds earlier. But to stop the fight after Lee threw and landed accurate shots??? I counted 3 shots thrown and landed by Lee seconds before the stoppage, and still cannot understand how the ref could stop that fight at the point he did!!! Is it just me, or was that a horrible stoppage at the specific time the ref chose to do so?!

  1. That was a bad stoppage for sure, but Andy was dust. I'd of stopped the fight 5-10 seconds before the ref did. Even if it continued I think he was going to lose.

*PS... that was one of the best fights i've ever seen.

  2. I didn't get a chance to see the fight. That was the first time Lee went past round six. At 23 he is between the ages that Louis was beaten and Tyson was beaten for the first time. This loss will either make him or break him IMO. So which one will it be?

Also how hurt was Vera when he was down in the first?

  3. no

  4. All I have to say is what was he thinking calling out Pavlik? He could'nt last three rounds w/ Kelly.

  5. My first reaction is to agree with you but he was taking a beating and you have to give the referee the benefit of the doubt as he can see the fighters eyes and reaction to punches. Sometimes a fighter will act on instinct and keep throwing but there was still over 45 seconds left and a lot of cumalitive damage can occur during that time.

Lee's trainer Emmanuel Stewart said he didn't have a problem with the stoppage and he was in the corner at ringside and could see all that was taking place. Yes it did look like a questionable stoppage but I would hate to see a stoppage come too late as opposed to a little early.

  6. it was a little early but if you just looked at lee's face he was banged up really good.

  7. I was at mohegan sun watching this fight from ringside. I most certainly think this was a good stop by the ref.

Lee was getting hurt, yes. Lee was still fighting back, yes. But Lee was not going to win unless he knocked Vera out and that wasn't going to happen. Lee could have gotten hurt pretty badly in this bout. He was already pretty banged up and it is up to the ref to make sure nothing really bad happens. I think it would have been a crime to let it go on any longer. This is boxing, not the IFL.

  8. Missed the fight.  Caught the rebroadcast, Vera was on Lee all night, and even thought Lee was throwing a punch as the Ref stopped it, he was taking a beating.  I got to agree with the answer below me, it appeared that Vera had Lee's number and it was only a matter of time.  They were both taking shots, but Lee was clearly getting the worst of it, and it was only going to get worse for him.  Nobody got seriously injured, and there is always tomorrow.
