  1. no i watch jerry springer

  2. Yep. I find it interesting that Oprah has a look of disgust on her face as well as the tone in her voice that she wants to cry for the women being used by this sick couple.

Edit:  You know whats running through Oprah's head.  Look how the slaves were treated here in the US.  They were used just like these people are.

  3. No, I'm not watching it.  However, according to the recent studies, frozen embryos are healthier than fresh embryos. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/200...

  4. I'm not sure what I think about it. I was immediately repulsed when I heard about it, but watching the woman show off her house with such pride and talk about how her life was changed forever... well she didn't seem to feel exploited.

I have a friend here in the US who chose to be a surrogate and I never once even thought of her being exploited. I know my friend is smart and will think things through, so while I questioned her decision I never questioned whether she was being taken advantage of. I guess my thought is what does that say about my thinking that I automatically assume these women in developing countries are being exploited. They are smart women too, who made a choice to do this to change their lives by helping someone else... and they seem happy with their decision.

Again I still am not sure how I feel about it. I know it's not something I would do. The whole thing makes me feel kind of "icky" but the show was very thought provoking.

  5. I saw the episode and to me Lisa Ling seemed to think it was a wonderful opportunity for both woman.

  6. i find this practice, the exploitation of military wives, and the other women who rent out their uterus to make rent, deplorable and sicking.

and independent...it totally is reminiscent of slavery breeding.

ps. for those who believe these women are just "giving the gift of life" take the money away and see how many run for the hills...  or better yet, why don't we ever hear of young women from beverly hills or the hamptons doing the "loving thing" and renting out their wombs...

ETA: i think it's sick that people defend this practice by saying it gives them a "better life." it's the same rationale some people used to defend child prostitution. try helping these poor countries rebuild their economy and not exploiting them for western greed and selfishness.

  7. I saw it the first time it came on.  It is a wonderful opportunity for the woman from India because of the deplorable living conditions.  It gave her an chance to better the lives of her and her family.  It is also a wonderful opportunity for the couple wanting a child.  As I remember the mother said - You can't judge someone until you have been in their shoes.  If you want a child more than anything else in the world you don't know to what extremes you will go to until you are faced with obstacles.
