Question:

Anyone who can play the piano?

I'm a teen & have a passion to learn to play the piano. But my family can not afford to pay for the lessons (plus, they think I should focus only on my studies). It makes me mad that money always stops me from doing things I want (like taking mountaineering classes too). Anyway, am I too old to learn & get really good at it? Annnd, how can I go about learning without money? Maybe I could tutor a kid in academics & they could teach me piano (as I'm pretty good academically). Should I hide it from my parents?

THanks!

  1. all great answers so far.... and i just have one thing to say

Music is the mediator between the spiritual and the sensual life..............Ludwig Van Beetovan

Dont let finances OR your parents get in the way of doing what you want to do........you are never to old to learn an instrument....and once you take advantage of that it makes all the difference

    good luck and god bless

  2. I agree with RJS1121

It's never to late to learn something. It's really good to know that you really have the passion to learn the piano (I play the piano too ^^ ). There's tonz of websites where you can download the music sheets and print them out. The above answer is true, that you can learn from youtube. Tonz of lessons there and other people's performances

Good luck! Don't give up! :)

  3. Your never too old and some free lessons can be found on youtube by typing in "piano lesson". Good luck.

  4. Hi Shay...

No, No, No... you cannot hide it from your parents.  It is ashamed, however, that you are not able to pursue your music education due to finances.    You might ask your parents if you can get a little job to pay for piano lessons.  Baby sitting,  dog sitting or walking,  lawn mowing... and yes, I know boys usually do this.... but it IS something you could do.

You could also wash neighbors cars or help to do light house cleaning...  Where there is a will, there is a way and you seem to have the will.

You are not too old to learn the piano,  but you must have a piano to practice.    Ask your parents to give you a chance to show you are capable and willing to practice.

I sure hope they listen to you.

  5. if you really want to learn piano and get really good at it

then you have to practice frantically everyday starting at your age

it's not too late to start but you need to be persistent cuz 1) your family doesn't support you 2) you're a teenager, so there might many things out there you wanna do other than practicing piano 3) you need to study and get into a good college

don't be daunt by the lack of money, i think the best way to learn it (without money)  is to ask any of your friend who knows how to play  to teach you. Or you can try pursuade your mom to let you learn it

music is a really good thing, it can calm your emotion. learn piano can enhance your standard + elegancy

music can make ppl feel happier

if your parents afraid that practicing piano will obstruct your study, then tell ur parents that you can still get a good grade while learning piano

    good luck

oh and by the way, do you have orchestra in your school????

you can use the practice room in your school, cuz generally they have real piano in the practice room. it's better to use real piano to play, cuz the weight of the keyboard between real piano and electrical piano is really different. And the weight of keyboard really matters. so just use the real piano in the practice room to practice. 1) You can go there in the morning before school 2) or after school

  6. I agree with the youtube answer. You can find many online lessons. You will have to be more independant, but it is entirely doable. You just need a lot of determination and practice. Listen to as much inspirational music as you can so you never lose that determination. If you could manage to get another student to teach you, that would be great, but the tutoring time would take away from that you could spend practicing. You will need between a half hour and an hour a day, so do you think it is possible?
