Did anyone else not realize throughout the entire book that Morgenstern wasn't real, only to feel completely foolish later on with the realization? Wondering if I'm alone here ;P

  1. I originally didn’t realize it myself, and have met others who did not realize it

I knew that there were no such places as Florin and Guilder, but thought that to be some sort of in-joke that I would understand if I had read Morgernstern.

  2. I definitely didn't realize Morgenstern wasn't real for a LONG time (I read the book in 5th grade) and then went around telling people that WIlliam Goldman didn't actually write the book, it was this guy named S. Morgenstern. I felt a bit stupid once I actually realized.

  3. I looked him up after I started reading the book.  He fooled me.  I never figured out his purpose of creating a make believe author.  It only frustrated and annoyed me.

  4. you are alone...everybody is a machine...

  5. no, you're not, only a few years after reading the book and watching the movie did i realize that goldman made up the whole thing.

i felt quite stupid. and the funny thing was, i'm actually quite good at geography! how i thought that florin existed (at one point or another) and that there was such a language as florinese baffles me to this day.
