I saw some cat calming sprays at the store, just wondering if anyone has tried anything like this. My cat freaks whenever he goes to the vet so keeping it on hand for vet trips would be helpful.

  1. I used a powder that you mix in with their food called NaturVet and it was supposed to help calm cats during travelling. It basically didn't do anything at all. The vet suggested giving 2-4mg of an antihistamine called Chlor-Trimeton a couple of hours before travelling. It seemed like it might have had a little bit of an effect but the cats still meowed in the car for hours.

  2. A few drops of Bach Rescue Remedy would be good for a trip to the vet. Either put it in a small amount of water or directly in the cat's mouth. It is completely natural so will do no harm to the cat, and there's no such thing as overdosing. You can get it at a health food store in a yellow box and it's in a dropper bottle.

  3. Yes and for the same reason- Charlie used to shred his claws on the crate- I got the stuff from the health food store that contains chamomile and Valerian- you have start giving it to kitty three days before the vet visit for it to work- worked great and then I changed charlie's carrier to a leather samsonite carrier- he still gets upset but he doesn't hurt himself in it- the calming agent worked fine but it was the daily struggle of getting it into his mouth that was discouraging for me and for him- he hated the stuff
