The other day at my apartment I witnessed my mail carrier accidentally drop a container of mail. He started cussing & picked up some of it & threw it in the trash. It was unopened letters, not just junk mail. I walked over & said "Are you going to leave all that mail in the trash?" He said "shut the F up!" I hoped he was just having a bad day. I then checked my mailbox which luckily had my mail inside. Then I walked home. I didn't want to go any further with him because I had my 2 yr old with me. It didn't occur to me at the time that he saw which mailbox I checked so he knows which one is mine. He also knows what apartment I live in. Ever since that day, he has been retaliating by repeatedly breaking the lock on my mailbox door & leaving it empty. I decided to have the main post office hold my mail. But here is my question: Will this mail carrier know my mail is being held & will he STILL have access to it inside the post office? Or is it another group of people who sort & hold it?

  1. File a complaint against the postman at the post office. This shouldn't be happening to you and if you complain every time, he will be fired.

  2. First of all, you should not have to put up with this.  Go to this website and file a complaint.

    http://postalinspectors.uspis.gov/contac...

They will investigate and make it stop.

As to whether or not he has access to your mail, the answer is yes.  Even though it's being handled by other people, he could still gain access, although it's highly doubtful that he would if it's a large suburban mail facility.

  3. Different group of people

  4. I worked for the post office. What you need to do is call your local post office (or go down there) and demand to speak to the Postmaster.  Let them know this is happening and they will take care of it immediately.  Let them know that if you don't find results there that you are going to call the Postal Inspectors.  They have an 800 number in the phone book and it is completely annonymous. They will follow this person around on their route and if they do anything (like your explaining) they will be detained and tried in federal court. This is all federal crimes and they need to be dealt with. If your not fixing this problem your mail is going to be missing. The postal inspectors will thank you for reporting this. They are a very annonymous bunch, no one knows who they are or what they look like. They will take care of the problem, and fast! The postmaster will too, if you mention the postal inspectors, they DO NOT want them anywhere near their office. That could result in the removal of the postmaster. The postmaster will fix this problem in a hurry! Your mail is DEPENDENT on your mail carrier.  The mail is brought to the post office by him/her (if they chuck it between your SOL) then it goes to processing, then its shipped where it needs to go. Same in the opposite direction. Then it is up to your mail carrier to bring it to you. If they throw it in the trash, then they're federally responsible (like 15 years worth) for what was lost. This carrier will be terminated and investigated. Call the postmaster tomorrow or setup a meeting. You can take your 2yr old with you.
