Anyone who is a sociology major, or knows about this topic please help!?

i was given this as an assignment topic in my sociology class, and was wondering if anyone could answer it for me from a sociological perspective, using as little extraneous information as possible.

1. When people become elderly, they experience greater amounts of both freedom and dependency. Discuss

As one ages, there comes a freedom from showing up for work (retirement) and caring for your kids (the empty nest). and you don't worry so much about how s**y you look ("futility" I believe).

One the other hand, you become more dependent on doctors and, if you live very long, others to help you drive, shop, cook, and other ADLs.
