I'm just curious.... I know a lot of people leave the church and say it's because they found out the church wasn't really true, yada yada yada... I'm just wondering about people who have left the church and still think Mormons are good people? Do you think that in spite of their beliefs? Or because your reasons for leaving the church were not because of deciding it wasn't true?

  1. Well, I am not and have not been LDS. Infact I am Catholic. But, my best friend is a Mormon, and he is a very good person and so is his family and so are all the people from his church that he has introduced me to.

I'm not entirely sure if that answers your question. But, being Catholic, certain aspects of my belief differ quite largely from my friend's beliefs and we both understand that we each have the right to pursue and believe in (or not believe in) whatever religion we choose and that is what makes us great friends, even though our beliefs differ entirely.

  2. Many many ldsers got love your neighbor down pat, genuinely. Xers and stills, and much better on par than other groups. download  www.e-sword.com   and consider these scriptures

  4. I grew up Mormon... most of my family is still Mormon... I still live in Utah. I am now Atheist (I just decided it wasn't true for me) but, Not all Mormons are good people.. but then again not all Catholics are good people either. Same goes for Muslims, Buddhists, Atheists and every belief out there.

You will find good and bad people in all religions. Your religion doesn't make you a good person.

There are alot of Mormons who are very good people.

Just because I don't believe in it, doesn't mean I think they are bad people.

  5. The people I see that leave the church and are all angry about it are the ones that thought Joseph Smith and other prophets were perfect people or They are the ones that usually misunderstood doctrines pretty bad or in some other way- when they left- had some sense that they had been tricked.  They were usually the ones that would be way into everything and way excited for a couple months, then they hit a wall and just drop off the face of the earth.  Usually this is more because of misunderstanding or misperception, but thats kinda irrelevant.  Either way they are gone and eventually fight against it just as hard as they fought for it before.

There are those that eventually just stop going because it doesnt resonate with them or they just slowly fall away from it.  They never really got into it too much and were always kinda neutral.  They are the ones that can usually leave it alone and live normal lives and usually these people end up atheist from what I've seen.  They dont have bad feelings towards the church, they just dont believe much of anything.

Im sure there are exceptions to everything, but those are the two categories I see.

  6. I am xlds and i'm no longer bitter towards the church. Most think that we leave because we are offended or never held a testimony but it's true that we leave because we realize that it's c**p. LIke I said previously, I am no longer bitter against the lds, I am bitter against religion in general. They're all flawed and so I hate them all equally.

  7. you're asking the wrong crowd don't you think?

those who simply decided not to activly believe in the church anymore aren't likely to to be in this room.

you get a skewed result in this room, I think that there are far more people who are amicable towards the church then angry about it but there is no motivation for them to argue since they don't feel as passionate either way.

  8. Vicky

10 percent is not all your money

There are several ex lds members that post on this message board that say they just stopped believing or never really believed in the church anymore but they are respectful and dont have any issues with mormons.

  9. I grew up mormon.  I'm atheist now.  Everyone in my family is still mormon.  I simply don't believe it any longer.  I have my reasons...they are firm and evidentuary.  It doesn't matter really...just my reasons.  Regardless, I have no animosity for mormons or anyone of any other faith...as long as they for the most part leave me alone.

Hey Jacob.  I used to fight hard for it.  Mission.  Temple Marriage...the whole deal.  I used to think that people who fought hard and left would fight hard against.  I was wrong.  I still have no animosity.  I don't fight against it.  I'm not anti....simply just don't believe.

  10. The people are fine, but the leaders past and present do decieve young mormons and potential converts. I promise you that. I was not told much of anything before being baptized,. When I asked about certain subjects I was told to have more faith and pray about it. Well the history and strange doctrines are still there, just watered down a ton over the years...to look more mainstream.. Have a look here...

    and

Mormonism does believe in polygamy in the afterlife, which is worse that here on earth...imo... Joseph smith had 34 wives, 11 were already married..Brigham Young had 35 to 50 wives with 57 children. Mormonism teaches they will all be together forever.. That doesnt sound fun to me...

    Plus a very racist past...
