Question:

Anyone whose had progesterone injections...?

I just finished my 2nd round of IVF and finally got the bfp I've been waiting to see for 5 years! I've been getting progesterone injections since the day of my egg retrieval (2 1/2 weeks ago) and have to continue taking them until my 1st ultrasound in 2 weeks. The problem I'm having (besides the big lumps on my rear!) is that for the last week, they've been burning really bad. It continues to burn for like a 1/2 hour after too. I asked the nurse about it and she said that happens. My question is has anyone else ever experienced this, and is there anything you can do about it? I can suck it up for 2 weeks, but it really is painful and just thought there might be a solution. Any advice would be great, thanks!

  1. Congratulations!

First of all make sure that you have switched the 18g needle to the 22g needle (Some even use a 25g) after drawing out the oil. I have to say that because I have heard of women injecting with the drawing needle! Also, if you have a small tushy you can use the 1" and not the 1 1/2" needle.

Warm the needle when the oil is in it. Not too hot! Just warm so the the oil disperses easily. After the injection, rub rub rub your tush! Then, have your heating pad ready and sit on it for at least 10 minutes. I've have done injections with and without the heat and it makes a world of difference!

You may ask your clinic about weekly injections. If your progesterone is high enough you can make the switch.

I love this video! It helped me when I started PIO's http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M4M8iCq8z...

  2. i dont know the answer but a BIg congrats

  3. I take progesterone injections to prevent preterm labor.  Along with the big lumps, I do get burning.  I also have bad itching in the injection site.  I put heat on it immediately after my husband gives me my shot, and he rubs the site for quite a while.  I do the shots in my legs more often than my butt, but leg lifts also help.  The medication is so thick that your muscle rejects it (which causes the lumps)...if you can get the medication to soak into your muscle it won't be so bad.
