Question:

Anyone wish the bike companies would build flat bar road bikes?

I hardly use the drops on my drop bar. I havent spent even a minute on my drops since I purchased my road bike. Do you use the drops on your drop bar? Sometimes I wish the professional riders would start racing on bullhorns or flat bars so the mainstream road bike will not be made with drop bars anymore.

  1. They are called fitness bikes or hybrids.  The only time I use the drops is to gain against a strong headwind. You may want to look at some of the more upright road bikes that have the smaller tires.

  2. They do!!! You just need to look a little harder,

Marin, Peformance, Cannondale all build nice flat bar road bikes, Most are at the low to mid level in components.

If you want a higher end bike, just buy one with drops and convert it. It's not very hard.

  3. They do make road bikes with flat bars..   I also wanted one because I feel flat bars give me better control, and I found the perfect bike for me last year.

My bike is a Specialized Sirrus LTD.  It's got the exact same carbon fiber frame as the carbon Specialized Roubaix racing bike, the only difference being that the Sirrus has a flat handlebar with rapid-fire shifters, vs. drops on the Roubaix.

  4. they make commuter bikes that way. TT bikes do not have traditional drops either. tucking into the drops is how I get to 45-50 mph on a downhill..
