could you please find me the origin of Mamelli and Mamilli?

this is my last name.. We're not sure of the spelling because one of my great grandparents immigrated from either Italy or Turkey to Syria, where the official language is Arabic and therefore the name had to be re-written in Arabic characters..

thanks so much!

  2. I come up with a bunch of middle 1800's immigration records with spelling 'Mamelli' from Italy.

I'm not sure about the question though - that some people from Italy spelled it Mamelli at some point in time doesn't mean that your ancestors spelled it that way.

If you have name, location, date of birth on an ancestor in that line from the early 1900's - we may be able to find him/her in the old census records and search from there.

  3. I just answered this one, but here is my answer again.

I did a search for the names on ancestry.com  but there is nothing in relation to them at all, sorry . I also searched on this site , but there is nothing on there either.

  4. I searched Ancestry.com and found no hits for Mamilli... but quite a few for Mamelli and Mameli.  In every record that listed a birthplace, the Mamelli/Mamelis all listed their place of birth as Italy.
