what's the difference between

(H) A motorized scooter.

(I) Class C does not include a two-wheel motorcycle or a two-wheel motor-driven cycle. ????????

i got this from my california dmv website, please explain this to me. i currently have a license c but want a cheaper gas alternative such as a motor scooter. I'm too lazy to bike or walk, etc. =(

  1. Mopeds are illegal, motorized scooters are legal

  2. The way I read it, you may operate a scooter with your class C license.

You cannot operate a moped, motorcycle, etc.

Look up the definitions to be sure what is what.

Definitions vary by state, I don't know where to find yours.

I find the differences interesting. Our equal to your classs C lets us ride a moped, not a scooter.

  3. M-1 allows the driver to operate a motorcycle, motor-driven cycle and moped up to 30mph w/ pedals unless all electric.

M-2 allows for operation of a moped or motorized bicycle only. 150cc or less and an auto tranny and up to 20 mph with pedals.

    all electric, no pedals.

A Motorised scooter has no seat, so it is like the kick scooters kids use, only motorised, gas or electric.

That last guy in the picture is operating a motorcycle with out a head. HIS HEAD i mean is MISSING.

    I think we've got it.

  4. Moped = motorized bicycle.

    Motor-driven cycle = Vespa-style vehicle.

Motorized scooter = go-ped style device.

Motorized scooter (go-ped) is NOT a motor vehicle under California law.

    Motorcycles include freeway-legal scooters.

A year ago you could ride a go-ped (motorized scooter) with just a class C license.  IDK, but IIRC, you need a Class M2 license nowadays.  Even if it is not needed, it is the easiest thing to get.

  5. I looked at the link and the only thing I can say is WTF.??

The DMV is totaly f**ked Why cant they keep it simple so us real people can read it. sorry had to rant a little. My guess is that they dont cover standard motorcycles. but will cover automatic motor scooters(Class C) that is.
