Could someone with excellent knowledge of Paris (a local maybe?) please tell me an easy to find location for me to meet a friend. Neither of us have ever been there, so it needs to be somewhere easy to find, and not somewhere too crowded or busy. I'll have a suitcase with me, so I don't want to walk too far either. I'll be coming from the Charles de Gaulle airport probably by train, and my friend will be coming from Avenue du Général de Gaulle , 93170 Bagnolet. I have no idea if these two places are close to each other, I've tried looking, but I'm hopeless with maps! Clear directions as well would be much appreciated! Thank you.

  1. The real problem is to find a place that it is easy for both of you to get to.

I take it your friend is arriving by Eurolines bus. He will therefore be at the Gallieni (Parc de Bagnolet)  stop on Metro line 3.

If you take the RER B from CDG a quick look at the transport map shows there is no place where these two lines have a correspondence (a station where both trains stop)

However, Roissybus runs a shuttle from three terminals at CDG that will take you to the Opera Garnier. Metro line 3 also has a stop at the Opera. This is a gigantic building that is impossible to misidentify and which will be immediately visible when you get off the bus and he gets off the metro.

Here is a picture of the front of the Opera. http://www.atkielski.com/inlink.php?/Pho... When your friend gets off the Metro this should be his view as he goes to street level.

The bus will drop you next to the American Express office which is just to the west of the Opera (out of sight on the left of this picture)

I suggest that this will be the smartest place to meet as you will both know what the area looks like and could even print out the picture and circle a specific spot at which you will stand while you are waiting.

NB:If you send me your regular e-mail I can send you a map of the immediate area if you feel that would be needed.

  2. The easiest for you will be to meet at the Saint-Michel fountain (take the RER B and go down at Saint-Michel, line 3 to Chatelet then 4 to Saint Miche for your friend). Some people meet there cause you can see people easily and it's in the middle of the city.

  3. Coming from Roissy Airport with RER - go down at

    " Chatelet " RER/metro station -

then look for the exit "Bertin Poirée" a small street perpendicular to the big Rue de Rivoli - Climb out

      there you'll find a men's clothes shop " CELIO " -

This place offers no possibility of error - except big rain, you'll be ok

Your friend will have to take the metro unto Chatelet -

    simplicity is the true luxury

  4. A "Must Have" is the Street Wise Map. It is avail either on line or at Borders. It has everything u possibly need from alleyways to land marks and eeeevrrrrrrrything in between, Get ONE! $6.95 and trust me it's a keeper. It's even laminated and collapsible
