  1. Friend of mine went out there a couple of times and really liked it. I seem to remember he spent a lot of time crawling around in an ancient irrigation system, cleaning it out in the hope it could be made to work again.

  2. A friend of mine did it 3 years ago.

He liked it. All very hippie...

Be prepared to sweat. Almeria is very hot (40º-45º) from the end May to Sept

  3. Volunteering at Sunseed

Hundreds of volunteers from around the world come to work at Sunseed Desert Technology each year. We rely on these volunteers not only for their valuable work and ideas, but also for our funding – we are almost entirely funded by the donations of our volunteers.

Volunteers can work in all of our departments and participate in all aspects of life at Sunseed, both in research as well as in community activities such as gardening, housework and building. Most visitors thoroughly enjoy their stay and take home with them a better understanding of what a sustainable way of living is truly about.

We have two different kinds of Volunteers at Sunseed:

    Part-Time Volunteers

Stay for two to five weeks or more and work 4 hours a day Monday to Saturday

    Full Time Volunteers

Usually stay for a minimum of 5 weeks and work for 7 hours a day Monday – Friday, plus occasional weekends. They tend to specialise in one of our departments and frequently carry out their own projects which are suitable for student projects or placements.

Please follow the links for more information on both of these kinds of volunteering at Sunseed, prices and information on how to book.

    Student Placements

Sunseed Desert Technology welcomes students at any level who wish to carry out a placement or project at Sunseed as part of their course, usually Students come to Sunseed as Full Time Volunteers. Click on the link above for more details of potential projects and further information.

    Virtual Volunteers

Not able to come to Spain, but interested in helping our work? We are always interested to hear from people who can help us carry out research, publicity or other help from home, please see this page for more information.

    Volunteer Staff Co-ordinators

Sunseed Desert Technology has nine volunteer staff co-ordinators, these staff stay for a minimum of one year and receive free board and accommodation as well as a subsistence of 20Euros a week.
