Question:

Anyone with some experience with cars?

I like the look of older cars. Some of my favorites are. . .

Pontiac Grand Am from 1969, 73, or 75

Pontiac Firebird from 1968

Chevy Impala from 1965, 66, 67, or 68

Dodge Charger from 1968, 69, or 70

Buick Riviera from 1965 or 66

But with the way gas prices are now, I can't really afford a car that only gets 13-20 miles to the gallon. Any suggestions on how I can get a car that has the look of an old car with the fuel efficiency of a newer car?

  1. With todays gas prices, not even 2 door economically practical cars can save you much money.

My best friend owns a 65 riviera, and drives it only on the weekends as a recreational/fun town car.  So maybe you can buy a vintage car and just use your regular car for practical purposes.

  2. Any one of these cars can be retrofitted with fuel injection.   For fuel mileage and power, you best bet would be a LS1 type engine (99 and up Camaro, firebird, GTO).  These can be easily fitted by a reputable mechanic.  Also, 99 and up truck engines are plenty powerful and relatively cheap.  The only hard part is finding one of the rare cars that hasn't rotted out......I didn't mention the Dodge because all the Mopar nuts have scooped those babies up and you'll be lucky to find one.

  3. i have a 1988 olds. delta 88, 3800 engine and i get really good miles out of it, better then i did with the 78 pont. bonneville i use to have. those are some nice looking cars you named, i also like the older cars. i wouldnt mind having a 57 chevy.

  4. Sorry i can't help with the mileage  question.  But you do have a great taste in Classic Cars.

  5. You shure have good taste in cars.

    I've had several of them and now have a 64 425 nailhead Rivi  ( maybe 11/15 mpg ) and a 66 corvair I'm putting a Cadillac xlr

4.6 (320 hp 280 c.i.) mid engine. With no overdrive and at 2600 lbs. I'm hoping for 20 mpg on E85. The GM's you picked all weigh from 3500 to 4000 lbs. you could put a late model turbo or super charged V6 with an overdrive in and maybe get like 16/25 if you keep your foot out of it.
